Smile Cylinder head bolt socket size.

I have a 2010 5.0 Jaguar XK N/A with 50,000 miles on it that I have to replace the head gaskets on. I recollect that I need a special socket to remove and replace head bolts with. Is it a Poly-drive? A Torx- Plus or is it a special socket only from the Jaguar tool supplier?
Would someone please respond in kind.

OK, That is the head bolt. What is the drive socket size to remove and from who?

Thank you.

Bolts are M10 X 175mm polydrive. Polydrive sockets are available from various Internet vendors such as eBay. There is a similar tool used for VAG engines:

Refer to the X150 5.0 litre Workshop Manual, page 992 for the correct torque and tightening sequence.

Larry are you replacing both head gaskets ??

That being the case are you dropping the entire drive line (subframe with , radiator/ condenser , engine, tran ) or performing the work in the engine bay

Hello steve_k_xk I worked as Master Jaguar Mechanic from 1987 t0 2018. I saw this enough while I worked there to know better. You would have misfire codes only on one bank, smoke out same tailpipe. Drop engine, remove one head and repair as needed. Road test after that and the misfire codes would return but for the other bank and smoke out of other tail pipe. Do same job twice for same money. I will drop the engine and subframe, remove both heads, measure heads and block, Rectify condition and reinstall as needed.

I saw a quote the other day that I will not take credit for. if you don't take time to do it right the first time, How long will it take you the second time? Or something like that.

Every time a car comes back it's lost time/lost money that's correct .. do it right the first time I'm with you on that.

Yes, that ^ ^ ^ ^
If one side went away, chances are that even if the other side isn't bad NOW, it WILL be fairly soon.

In fact, I just remembered something...... One of my wife's old Lincoln LSs jumped a timing chain on one side. Some guy we knew said he'd fix it for 'cheap' so we let him do it. Job was done, and about four months later the same symptoms popped up........ Dude DID change the timing chain.... on ONE side. Said he didn't even check the other side, and I just assumed he'd do both.
Didn't bother fixing it, sold it as it was, listed as "needs timing chain".

Turns out the E-bay item suggested by NBCat Is wrong size, Got Engine out of car, stripped down and I am just staring at these head bolts. Go back to toolbox and bring everything out that is remotely close. turns out a plain old 10 mm allen socket fits nicely and all the head bolts came out nicely. Don't know if I am going to trust this allen tool during stretch bolt install procedure. Back to my quest for proper Poly drive socket.

Thank you.
