Default Entry/Exit settings

New to forum, looking for help.
Just purchase a VERY nice '07 XK and am having an issue with the "entry/exit" mode for the seat and steering wheel. The car has keyless start/stop, and the manual says something about the car in "convenience mode" for the wheel to retract upon opening door. Seems a little silly to turn off engine then expect to push the button again just to exit the car. But either way, I have the "auto" setting set on the column but the seat does not move.

Am I expecting too much, or am I missing something in the setup?
Thanks

That I know of, Entry/Exit mode only repositions the steering wheel, not the seats....

Does the 2007 model have this feature? Mine doesn't seem to have it, unless I don't have it set properly...

The steering wheel should move to the top of its travel when enabled. I thought mine was broken when I first got it then realised that I drive with it in that position already so it has no where to move to.

The steering wheel rises to its maximum height when you have the position adjuster set to 'Auto' and you open the door. As u102768 says, that can only happen if your normal wheel position is lower than the maximum. The seats don't move - if you need that, perhaps use seat memory position 3 for exit.

Just for clarity: 'convenience mode' is the state the car goes into when you unlock it or after you've stopped the engine - it's different from the ignition-on state you get by pressing the start button without your foot on the brake. The ignition is off, but a lot of the ancillary systems are powered up so you can do things like move the seats, etc. Convenience mode ends when you lock the car; if you don't, it will eventually power everything down, but it takes up to half an hour, and that sucks power from the battery.

My wife's Vauxhall Insignia moves the seats backwards and forwards automatically but then it was a £30,000 car. You can't expect the same facilities on a £90,000 XKR!

Default Thanks

Thanks to all for the replies.
The answer is that the car is working correctly, just not as I would expect. Probably should not use my wife's S-Class as benchmark.

The seat in the XJ moves back and down when the knob on the steering wheel shaft is turned to auto. I think the designers thought that there isn't enough room in the xk series to accommodate that movement. Plus, I imagine it saves a little weight.

If you had someone (small) in the back of the XK, they might be crushed.

Mine does...

As stated, look at your steering wheel adjuster on the column. Not only is it a joystick, but also a knob with an "auto" setting to enable this feature.

Hmmm... it must be that I already drive it in its highest position. Odd!
