Default GPS Reception

Hi everyone-

My navigation says it can't find the satellites. It has a red line thru the GPS at the top of the menu. I replaced the GPS antenna and it found the satellites once, then went back to no satellites. Anything else I should try? I've looked in the diagnostic screen, and it just tells me it's not seeing the satellites. I've gone thru the recalibration, but honestly I don't know what I'm supposed to calibrate to, and it doesn't help. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Govtslug

Year? Same symptoms, 2011 XKR: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...av-gps-138114/ Probably a short circuit somewhere or a bad connection or ground. Or a bad navigation module.

See this TSB S419-15 from 2004 for the S-Type, but it might not work for our X150 models: http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/...n%20System.pdf See Page 2, GPS mark does not disappear from screen (unable to receive GPS signal).

As a last resort, you may have to calibrate your wallet to your dealer's cash register.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks Stuart. I'm not near my car right now, I'll try it when I get home. I've tried another diagnostic screen, but not the 917 code. Hopefully this will tell me something.

Thanks Stuart,
I know this thread is quite old but I am having problems with my S-Type sat nav retrofit and TSB S419-15 is a gold mine.
Cheers,
Aidan

Gang,

I have the same problem. The red line through the GPS icon. Interestingly, the NAV moving map still works, shows my location and car in motion. How do you “reboot” the system?

Try removing the nav disk, shut the engine off and wait a few minutes, and reinsert the disk. If that doesn't make any difference, try pulling the fuse for the nav disk, wait a few minutes, and putting it back in. See your Owner's Handbook for the location of that fuse.

The red line through the GPS icon means that it's not receiving a signal. You might be in a weak signal area - surrounded by skyscrapers or in a valley surrounded by mountains - or your car may have aftermarket metal-oxide tinted windows that block the signal.

I thought the GPS sensor was that weird lump on the boot lid. Or, is that the Sirius XM antenna? The "regular" antenna is in the actual spoiler I do believe, cuz I had to change the lead on mine.
So much stuff, so many places.

Thanks Gang. Not a GPS reception problem. I have this happen a lot, with good visibility to the sky (no buildings in the way). I'll try the Disk shuffle and see if that helps. Thanks ..

If that doesn't work, the GPS antenna may be corroded and intermittently inoperable, and need replacement. See: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ru-gps-214750/

Hi Stuart,

Thanks a bunch. Do you have the part number for the GPS antenna handy? I can't believe how much the car has to be taken apart to get to the antenna. How much time did it take?

Here's the part:
https://parts.harperjaguar.com/oem-p...tenna-c2p24351

Here's how to do it:

If you have any questions, ask them in the thread linked above. I have not done this repair.

I found the answers to your questions very quickly by using a Google search.

A difficult choice.

Hmmm,, similar to the situation on my boat and my portable GPS receiver: If a 'lesser' number of satellites are sourced, a restriction in accuracy results. Identified to the viewer with the icon (assuming the receiver is successfully operational) I suspect that is the issue. (For instance, Garmin did have a global failing last week)
Which has me wondering... is there a way to display the number of satellites sourced?
The 'bump' on the boot lid is the satellite radio antennae.

Cheers.

Yes, if you go in to the hidden menu on the touch screen.

Thanks Gang. Appreciate all the help. The replacement antenna is not too expensive, but a lot of work to remove it. For the best GPS reception, its best to have it outside of the car.

I expect that the shark antenna on the top of the trunk lid is the Sirius XM antenna. I got to the hidden menu in the Nav screen. The second screen shows the satellite connection status (for each satellite). The STS column (I expect stands for Status), cycles between P/T/-. I would expect that the “-“ means no connection With LVL being the power level. Sometimes, all the satellites LVL=0, STS=“-“. Within a few minutes, they flip to “P” and LVLs in the 70’s and 80’s.

More to come.

Too true @plight , but I don't want that antennae stuck on the outside of the car either.

Too bad they did not make a combination XM and GPS antenna.

Gang,

Interestingly, I pulled the CD out and re-inserted. Upon turning the car on, it immediately saw 14 satellites. Drove for about 15 minutes. Parked for 30 minutes. Drove the car and quite quickly, lost all the satellites. I’ll try pulling the fuse next. With it seeing the satellites, with good power levels, I would find it hard to believe that it’s a corroded gps antenna.

more to come.
