homelink button problem
My 2010 xk coupe has a broken button on the overhead homelink garage door opener. Spoke with jag dealer, he says that this is part of the mirror system and whole thing needs replaced, asked me about high beem sensors. My rearview mirror has a small dot on it which i assume is autodimmer, my question is from the outside of car, looking at the windshield where mirror is attached, in the middle of the black color on the windshield there is a about a 2 inch square sensor for something, is this for autodimmer headlights or for high beam sensor? thanks

Broken HomeLink Button
bobdr1 ... how is your HomeLink button 'broken'? Does it hang down? Does it still work? The left HomeLink button on my 2009 XK Coupe hangs 1/2" lower than the other 2 buttons, but it still operates my garage door. When I'm away from my garage, and I push it up in order to line it up with the other 2 buttons, it just returns to where it started ... 1/2" lower than the other 2! Can I gently pry the 3" x 3" panel off that surrounds the buttons to see why my left button won't stay up like the other 2? If so, any idea on how best to do that? Thanks.

The overhead console is a completely separate unit from the mirror, etc. It's held in by 6 clips and has a single cable bundle that connects to the rest of the car. It can be disassembled further to replace the switches, the circuit board, the intrusion sensor or the door-opener module. There are full instructions in the workshop manual.
I think you're being fed a little story by the dealer...

Snide72, yes mine is working just as yours does but is just hanging down 1/2 inch or so loosely, it is under warranty so will get it replaced. I did not understand why whole mirror unit needed replaced either as it looks like homelink is separate item. This is dealer in Orlando, same one that quoted me $299 for an oil change. I have a feeling this place is just trying to ripoff it's customers.

Just spoke with tampa jag dealer, stated had to see problem before he would order part even though it's 1 1/2 hr drive away for me. Also stated that it may not be under warranty since they may consider it trim item and car was bought used by me! They would have to have it cleared by regional jag rep. I find it amazing this car company with very high end cars treat there customers as second class buyers once the car has been bought!
