Default hood adjustment stops

I have a dash rattle which I think might be the hood bounce (I'm hoping). I tried simply turning the pads to raise or lower them but they don't seem to want to move, being afraid of breaking old plastic I'm looking for advice from someone that has actually raised or lowered these stops. I'm afraid the top pad with the flats zd will break off of the threaded section

Before you do that, put some clay or putty of some sort on the stoppers and close the bonnet carefully. That way you can see if there is either contact or a gap to compensate.

thanks CeeJay, I found I could bounce the hood a tiny bit, so there is clearance. I sprayed the threads with wd40, still too tight for me to try twisting. I placed a small square of industrial male+female velcro on them which removed the clearance... we'll see if that is actually the rattle.

I'm in the habit of using adhesive weatherstripping on any component that rattles, squeaks, bounces. I wonder if that could be done here.
Or is it a case of worn or mis adjusted latches..

Maybe try some thin rubber trims?

So, I looked closer at my car's hood.
1. The latches are snug and adjusted in such a way that the hood is secured snugly, but not tightly to the weather stripping.
2. so, I lowered the stops, there is no effect on the alignment of the hood.
3. the hood still sits at the right level
4. there is no play in the hood while closed

whelp, my hood sat at the correct level also but if I grabbed the tailing edge (either side) and pulled.pushed there was a bit of movement, enough that I could hear a muted thump.
I'll be out later on and determine if this is the cause of my occasional dash rattle.
For those that missed my comment @ using a bit of felcro, you can see that the left side is compressed a bit and the right hardly at all...indicating that there is a little bit of free play.

Now if I can ever get the adjusters loose I'll be happier.

there are further adjustments on the underside of the hood ie the bonnet locking mechanism both sides can be adjusted to either loosen or tighten

@wymjym By George I think he’s right. For the passenger side at least.

Just took off the cover panel and lifted up the windscreen fluid cover (just lifts, small non locking tab).

Can’t get the camera in there, but there is a nut underneath.

Driver’s side you’ll have to go in from the wheel well.
Bit more of a pain.
