I wouldn’t mind having the digital guage, but would also like the dipstick. They tried to idiot proof the car, with electrinic measurements on every fluid…but for those of us that want to do a quick dipstick check…it’s kind of a pita. Just one of those endearing quirks.

There's quirks and there's a lack of a dipstick, if you have a 4 cylinder engine it's bad enough but on a V8 it's a game changer at least for me, it's not happening actually it was one of the reasons I got the earlier XKR-S as it had the regular dip stick with the 4.2

My only problem is I have to wait ten minutes (or more) after I shut the car down to measure the level. Must be some tiny passages in there if the draindown takes ten minutes.

For the newbies, the 2008 4.2L XKR-S wasn't available on my side of The Pond 🇺🇸. We got the similar 4.2L XKR Portfolio models.

I still change my own oil and filter. So I get to see how much comes out and refill with the 7.5 quarts.
Typically what I have vacuum pump out is a little less than 7.5 quarts.
All the jags I've had consumed a little oil on a yearly basis.
Usually my oil level checks thru out the year indicates "LEVEL OK"
Never had a "ADD" type warning since 2016 when we purchased.

I also do this just as after the oil change because I know the oil level is good.

This procedure is from the XK150 Workshop Manual:

To access the service mode, the following procedure should be followed:

 Scroll through the trip menu to access the eDipstick display.
 Press the cruise control CANCEL button twice within 2 seconds.
 The instrument pack display will revert to the normal display in the trip computer.
 Scroll through the trip menu to access the eDipstick display once more.
 The graphic now corresponds to the LIVE value.
The service mode allows the average value to be updated with the correct live reading. This is to be used during the PDI
procedure, and after an oil change. The procedure described below is used in order to reset the average oil level:
 Access the service mode as described above.
 Press and hold the cruise control CANCEL button for more than 2 seconds.
 Switch the ignition off to allow the ECU to shutdown completely.
 Switch the ignition on, access the eDipstick and verify that the stored value has updated correctly.

I always change my oil yearly even though I do not get to the milage requirement. Just got 70K on the car and changed the oil in November.

So based my experience and methodology I feel the eDipStick works pretty reliably.
If I ever had some unexpected readings I would need to check deeper.

I find it amusing
old style =
1 raise the engine cover
2 pull the dip stick and wipe it clean
3 reincert
4 pull dip stick and inspect
YOMD (your opinion might differ)
