How many miles did you
It might be interesting to have a poll on how many miles you have driven your car in a month. There is various discussions on should you use a smart charger or not . Is it overkill or just a convenient way of topping your battery. Also is the car used as a daily driver or a week end cruiser. Next would be do you store it in the winter (if you have one) or do you drive it year round.
I just took a look at my last month travel with the XKR and it was around 100 miles. In fact I looked at the charger yesterday and it's the 1st time I had seen it in the 8th step on float. So far I haven't driven it this month but will take it out on Friday.
What's you monthly mileage?

I did about 600 miles a month. I'd leave it for about 2 weeks a year when overseas and never had a problem starting it, though I think that cold affects batteries more and we live in a warm climate.
That said, my mother who lives near me has a toyota 86 and I think it has burned through about 3 batteries in 4 years.

There seems to be a misconception about the purpose of the maintenance chargers like the CTEK unit (which Jaguar and other marques also market under their own names).
The XK will always start, even with a partially discharged battery - that isn't the issue. The issue is that unless the battery is providing full voltage, random system problems crop up: seats, windows, locks, touch screen failing to operate properly, random warning lights, problems with the electric roof...in virtually every case it is simply a matter of battery voltage, generally associated with cars used infrequently or/and for short runs. XKs used daily or almost daily, or less frequently but for longer runs will not exhibit any of these problems.

My XKR is my daily driver. I average about 900 mpm with a mix of street and freeway driving. It is driven 12 months out of the year except when I'm traveling which altogether accounts for about 8-10 weeks per year including multi-week trips as well as 2-5 trips. We take one or two road trips per year, one if which is in the XKR and can be as long as 2500 miles over 10 days. I keep it on a Ctek when home every night. It is cheap insurance.

My 07 XKR has averaged 200 miles a month in the last 6 months. 99% of that was city driving so rarely going over 40 mph. We average around one day of snow a year and they don't use salt on the roads so I drive the car all year round.
It probably gets used on average 5 days a week and that is mainly travelling 4 miles to work and 4 miles back again so the battery gets abused. I also don't bother locking it at night when it is in the garage but haven't need to use my CTEK since I bought a new AGM battery 20 months ago. Before that I was getting all the usual electrical gremlins.

This XK is no different. Only driven one day a week since the end of February this year so around 100 miles a month.
Longest daily total in this XK was 1117 miles overnight (19 hours) from home in the north of England, through Eurotunnel, across France and down to Burgos in the north of Spain.
I don't put it on the CTEK unless we're going away and it'll stand for up to a month.

My XKR gets out at least twice a week in summer and I average about 3,500 miles for the whole season (currently at 15,000 miles on my '12). I haven't felt the need to plug it in at all given the regular use in the warmer months, and it has performed flawlessly. I do however store it in winter and then it is definitely plugged in to the CTEK the whole time.
On a side note, I often reflect upon how fortunate I am to have bought this exceptional vehicle from new....
If you consider that it's no longer made, that it perfectly embodies "Pace with Grace", that it's better looking than the F-Type (subjective of course), that it's better looking than any Porsche (not subjective...Fact!), that it can fit my kids in the back (for now), that it's extremely rare, that it has undeniable presence, and most of all... that it has Lightning for *****!!

My 07 looks like it came out of the showroom yesterday ( inside and out) and it drives that way too. I expect it will be the same in 15 years.
Oh, and that designer at Porsche must be pretty old by now. He has been using the same design since the early 60's...he couldn't even come up with anything new for the Panamera so he just added rear doors, the result being the ugliest luxury car on the planet...no, wait, that accolade goes to Rolls Royce's current offerings.

Mine is a daily driver unless I'm away on business or holiday. I only use the charger if I'm away more than a week or if I have any screen issues. I generally do around 1000 kilometres a month or around 625 miles.
I agree I think we have a developing classic on our hands, I have no intentions of selling my XKR, made that error once!

Jagtoes:
I average about 150 miles a month. Like SOV211, my 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition is in showroom condition inside and out.
As for your LED Step #8 on the CTEK. The Step #8 LED lights up after the vehicle is sitting for 10 days. The CTEK automatically switches over to a "Pulse Charge" mode.
Prior to the 10 days, the CTEK will remain in step #7 Float maintenance. It moves to Step #8 as a "float" charge (Step #7) can boil or dry out the battery if kept in this mode for an extended period of time.
