HVAC Blower Motor Control Module C2Z6538

HVAC Blower Motor Control Module C2Z6538
For the DIYer. Should you determine C2Z6538 requires replacing because the blower motor doesn't work. As you may know, Toyota owned Denso is a supplier of some Jaguar components/parts. Jaguar C2Z6538 (MSRP $233) = DENSO 077800-1020 = AIRTEX 4P1642 ($100 @ rockauto.com & $165 @ advance auto & auto zone). You have to use the AIRTEX number in the rockauto search to find the part. It arrived in an AIRTEX box but embossed DENSO 077800-1020 Made In Japan. (Arrived in 4 business days from Iowa, shipping $ varies, there's a $5 discount code on the web.) (Wells JA 1764 and/or Carquest 53-69864 MAY be the same part, emphasis may.) The Airtex part # was not found on Amazon or eBay. (There's a method of repairing your own for a few dollars via a link found somewhere on the JF thread "blower quit", but the removal process refers to a different model Jag and module #.) It's apparently a proprietary part for Jaguar & Land Rover.
***STOP*** The Airtex 4P1642 did not work as a replacement for Jaguar C2Z6538. After DIY trying 4 combinations of the original control module C2Z6538, Airtex 4P1642 (Denso 077800-1020) control module, the existing Bosch motor and a replacement Bosch motor with the same nomenclature - the blower didn't blow. Later, the original motor spun when I had it bench tested. Flummoxed by my efforts, I took the car to a Jag dealer where the C2Z6538 was replaced at a cost of just under $500 and the blower blows. Apparently rockauto is mistaken about the equality of the two parts. I should have postponed the original above post until a successful completion. It takes less than half an hour for an agile young(ish) man to remove and install the C2Z6538 (disconnect 1 electrical plug, unscrew 2 screws, remove from rectangular hole in HVAC wall under the glove box, screw-in replacement, re-plug). I should have bit the bullet and acquired a genuine Jag part for the DIY adventure. Anyway, you could save yourself $250 labor if you DIY.

If you will do a little more cross referencing of the number, you can get it from Rock Auto for $55. I just did. I think the number shows up on a differnt model Jaguar and LR. But I looked further and it listed it as the same for the 07 XK. Good Luck and Good Hunting. If I remember tomorrow, I'll post the number.

(I dropped the glovebox via 2 size 30 Torx in the ceiling of the glove compartment, 2 size 30 Torx underneath the glove box on both nearside ends and 1 size 30 Torx on the right end (U.S. left hand drive) underneath the dash end cap. Then disconnected the glove box light and un-clipped a wire from some framing so as to lay the glove box in the passenger footwell. For a geezer with semi-arthritic hands, unscrewing the module (2 small phillips head) was not a piece of cake. One screw is awkwardly located behind the HVAC footwell vent. Please advise if I approached that bassackwards! I'm disinclined to do it the easy, elegant way.)
Thank you for your input. I noticed there's some relevant information on your Gremlins Never Let Me Down... thread. I may return the new module if the old does not prove defective. And please post the rockauto number for the less expensive part.
I procrastinated this small project til it was 93 in the shade. My motto's carpe diem, manana.

(I removed the glove box via 5 Torx #30 bolts: 2 inside ceiling, 2 under box on each end and 1 underneath the dash end cap. Disconnected a couple of wires connected to the glove box and laid it on the floor. Two phillips screws hold the module. One's not particularly easy to access. There may be a better way.)
Please post the less expensive part #. Thanks for your info.

Thanks. I may have posted prematurely. The module I pulled out is Denso 077800-0901. When replaced with 077800-1020 it still didn't blow. I'm taking it to local auto electric/onic shop for testing. My attempt at DIY has apparently exceeded my competence as a driveway hack.

Denso 077800-1020 in UK 2006 XK Coupe
I read this thread with dismay because I sourced an original Jaguar part C2Z6538 and in the box was the black Denso 077800-1020 resistor, not the previous grey 077800-0901 module that had failed.
However, to my surprise, it worked!
The blower motor is the Bosch part.
Happy days
