Default Installing spacers. Scary???

I was ready to install my wheel spacers, rims off and jack stands sturdy, when I discovered that the lug bolts (studs) on the car have to be cut off, about a 1/4 inch.
I wasn’t prepared to perform this task, so the wheels went back on and I got on the phone to various shops, asking if they would be willing to install these things.
I made 4 calls and received 4 definite answers amounting to No Way!
I have to ask, who installed your spacers and how do you feel about taking a cutting tool to your baby?
was it worth it in the end?
all the input is appreciated

Sorry. I’m with your shops on this. If you want a different look... new rims with modified offsets??
Others have cut the lugs. Others again have left the old lugs protruding as it didn’t affect the mating of the wheel to the spacer due to the ‘voids’ at the back of the rim.

Voids? Never occurred to me to look.
I will see if that’s an option.
i would consider wheels with different offsets as well
thanks for some insight

What guy said, dependent upon wheel design. Spacers in the rear don't affect anything, but spacers on the FRONT will absolutely mess up the Scrub Radius.
Try this instead......... get another set of rear wheels/tires that match the rears and put those rears on the front, maybe with a very thin spacer, like 3-5mm. That's IF you have a 2010-2011. Other years, do not do this!

Strange because h r spacer 20 and 15 fit almost perfect , just needed to grind the nuts on spacers a little bit to fit more snugly in the 19 oem wheels

The OP's Public Profile shows that he's in Canada with a 2008 XK. It's not clear if his XK has the standard OEM 19" wheels or something else.

Regardless, I'm with Guy and Cee Jay about not cutting the OEM studs - doing so compromises safety.

And I'm also not a fan of spacers because of the risks. I'm not going to open that Pandora's Box of opinions, so if anyone wants to learn more, just look it up on the internet. I'll stick with what the factory engineers designed.

20” Senta wheels.
there is a void that allowed the fronts to go on without issue, but the rears need about an 1/8th of an inch taken down on the studs.
i may visit the idea of different rims with offsets that allow me to eliminate the need for spacers
i appreciate all the input

If you search this forum, you’ll find that others have done it. Basically removing the non-threaded end of the stud.
I have the spacers, but keep putting off that surgery. May yet do it some day.

Exactly, you just remove the non-threaded end of the stud. I have 20mm front and 15mm rear and only needed to do it on the rears!:-)
