Good morning guys, I'm doing an oil change today. 2009 XK, 21k miles now, been enjoying the hell out of it. It got me thinking.... car is extremely well taken care of BUT nevertheless it's a 10 year old car. I was going to change out the plugs with Iridium ones since they seem to be the best ones out there at the moment. Anyone know what type of factory plugs came in 2009? Any other fluids that I should be concerned with since the car is 10 years old? Thanks for you advice and patience with all my questions.

 

Brake fluid; transmission; differential; power steering I looked through the manual but didn't find a spark plug spec. It's probably there, I just couldn't find it.

EDIT: actually They are IFR5N but the 7N is a bit colder and what was spec’d for the Aston version as well Middle East delivered cars due to the hot climate.

Plugs are not time sensitive parts so why the change at 21K when they should be fine through to 100K? Are you experiencing thrown codes or deteriorated performance?

 

I must admit, I enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together on my Porsche.

Might possibly be similar, just doing it to enjoy the car even more.

 

The car stalled out on me last week from a cold start for no particular reason that I can tell. Would idle low, below 500 RPM then die. Did this for 3 times. No codes what so ever.

 

May be a good idea to check the fuel pressure and compare it to the Workshop Manual specifications. If the pressure appears low, try changing the fuel filter first as the vehicle is ten years old.

I had problems where my XK would die trying to start, or start rough.

Issue was fuel filter.

 

I’ll look into the fuel filter. Hadn’t occurred to me since the vehicle has such low mileage.

 

What was the repair cost on the fuel filter? Thx

 

Here's the plugs I was recommended by my Indy for my 2014, a set 8 were £50/$60 inc shipping.

 

All it takes is one bad tank of gas to clog a fuel filter.

 

I do not remember.

I haven't been counting money spent with this car.

I believe with labor it was <$300, but whether that Less Than was $50, $200, or $299 I do not recall.

That was three years ago as well. Prices tend to go up.
