Default Nav disk spins on... off.... on... even when car locked

So.... dead battery again.
When I was up and running, I noticed a noise while putting the cover back on: it's what I assume is the navigation disk in a dvd player. Spins up to speed, about three seconds later shuts off. this just repeats endlessly-- and it continued AFTER I'd shut off the car and even locked the doors for good measure.
I have to assume this is a malfunction.
I NEVER use this clunky nav system. Is there an easy way to disconnect it, or a fuse I can pull?
Is this a common problem? I can't imagine a scenario where this is normal operation for a turned off, locked-up car.
Thanks as always...

Was sitting waiting for a jump and I read that fuse 14 in the rear console is a 10amp fuse for "Navigation, power." I would have pulled it, but.... does anyone know what "power" refers to?"

I have seen a couple of X150's with faulty Navigation DVD drives, they don't shutdown or run so hot that you can burn your fingers when you touch them.

Basically it's an internal fault, and you should find a replacement module (2nd hand is fine, they don't need programming).

If you pull the fuse to the nav module, the whole audio system will go offline, if you want to unplug the navigation module permanently you will need a MOST fibre optic blanking loop to go in place of the DVD drive.

Cambo, wouldn't just unplugging the NAV reader work? or would that have the same effect?

If you unplug power to the Nav DVD drive the MOST fibre optic network will be offline, because the signal is not being passed on when the DVD drive is powered off.

So you need a blanking loop.

Thanks! A little out of my comfort zone so I'm gonna wait til I'm in LA and see if my warranty would cover it.

Is this it?

Yes it's the right one. You're going to unplug the loop from the back of the module, then plug this in to the open loop. Then the Nav system is bypassed and nothing more to do till you get to the shop.

Ten bucks is cheap to get rid of that annoyance.

Hmmmmm never thought of this. Never use mine though it works flawlessly. Perhaps someone here would purchase it from me and I would save further weight 🤔

I also had recurring flat batteries in my 2010 XKR and the dealer diagnosis included a parasitic load from the audio module. This was "fixed" with a software reload, however it did not cure the problem. After much frustration and some digging I came across the service bulletin K100 v2, which is attached, and points the finger to this problem at a faulty battery conditioning module. I had the module changed (about $300 in Canada) and no problems since. According to the dealer, he had never seen the service bulletin and it was not listed in his resources. It was issued from the UK and it is at the discretion of Jag US whether it is distributed here. I got JLR to cover the cost on the basis of this. I only mention this as I see your vehicle is the same vintage and the problem evaded detection, even after new software, alternator, battery, earth strap and so on. Good luck.
