Navigation module
Looking at a 2009 XKR at jaguar dealer. They have disconnected/bypassed the navigation. States the module is bad and they are not available.
Anyone have any experience with this before I pull the trigger?
UPDATE....the reason why the dealership disconnected the navigation module was due to a drain on the vehicle.
Thoughts? Fixes? What about some of these Apple Car Play screens?

Don't know why anyone would disconnect anything, if it doesn't work, don't select it.
The OEM navigation is about worthless in these cars, outdated without anything available, and pathetic compared to anything like Google Maps.

I wonder if the problem is with the GPS antenna as that is very common with these cars. It's a 10 minute / £20 fix which I, and many others, have done and is documented in a thread.
I would be sceptical of anything a garage says as, in my experience, most of them have very limited knowledge of how to diagnose anything apart from "Low washer fluid".

It would surprise me that a dealership would perform a quiescent drain test on a car. They are time consuming. It's always a good idea, regardless of what sales tells you, to look at the inspection docs (work orders) that the dealer has from when the car was traded in. They always do a run through of the car and there's almost always documentation. There definitely would be at a Jaguar Dealership.
If it were me, I'd ignore all that noise, have them plug it in and check out the functions myself, notwithstanding a drain. If the module works otherwise, who cares? You can buy used replacements on eBay for very cheap because as Cee Jay said, they are outdated.

As to solving the problem if you bought the car, you can replace the module with a used one on eBay. It will give you a 2009 map which was updated in 2008.
For your model year, if you wanted to install CarPlay/ Android Auto, you would need to buy from Cambo @ Old Jaguar. You can toggle back and forth between the OEM screen and CarPlay.
The alternative (Mr. 12Volt) will not work in your model year. It works in UK 2009 which is 2010 MY here in the US. You still need a functioning Nav Unit for Cambo's set up. So yep there are work arounds.
If you only care about the Nav function, ask yourself if you really need it. If you live in a well established area with few new roads, you can get by with an older Nav unit.
Lastly, there are threads about the Tesla style replacement screens and you can go that route too, but know you will have some, not all OEM functions. There are extensive threads about all of these alternatives. Expect to pay around $1000 for those solutions.
Cheers,

Don’t forget the Volvo disks that have 2016 maps (never checked to see if they ever made another update):

Only if the disk comes with it.
