If anybody could be of help to point me in the right direction to post which spot is cylinder 1 location?I seen the diagram but i'm confused if cylinder 1 is on the front left side on the engine towards the front bumper or is it on the back left of the engine facing the drivers side on the American standard side/the Left side that the steering wheel is on?

Jaguar have used many cylinder numbering schemes over the years. I thought they had settled on ISO Standard but was suprised to learn they have diverged yet again.
This is ISO Standard:
However, the XK 5.0 Workshop Manual details a different numbering. Firstly, to clarify LEFT and RIGHT:
Then relating this to cylinder identification:
Therefore cylinders are identified as L1 to L4 and R1 to R4.
They make it so hard to understand man.I wish they would just label it as cyclinder 1 and 2 is near the front pulleys. It's not hard at all for the Jaguar brand to realize they need to keep it simple enough to know that everybody in the world is not a certified Jaguar Mechanic lol

They certainly show plenty of imagination when it comes to cylinder numbering changes.
This is the same manufacturer that used the name XJ6 from 1968 to 2009 for four different models, XJ8 from 1997 to 2009 for two different models and XKR from 1997 to 2014 for two different models.
Perhaps Engineering should talk to Marketing at JLR.
Yeah "GUY", and so much simpler too! When I open the bonnet on the XK-R I see nothing but coverings, When I open the E's bonnet, I see beauty and old world Coventry ingenuity. I've owned this old girl over 50 years now. It seems we've grown old together, LOL!
Thanks for your kind comment.

And elegant mechanical solutions. My owner's manual to the Riley explains step by step how to dismantle the wiper motor and rewind it!
Let alone how to look after the SUs, the distributor and the fuel pump. None of this yank and replace nonsense.
