Default Cylinder number locations

Hi Sorry to start a new thread about this. I keep getting conflicting information regarding cylinder location for a 2002 X Type 2.5. I need to know for certain that cylinder number 5 is the far left rear cylinder as viewed when sitting in the car. This is a U.S. model so this would be drivers side rear bank.

Thanks
Ken

Sitting in the car the cylinders closest to you from right to left are #1, #3 and #5. The cylinders are located closest to the passenger compartment.
The cylinders closest to the radiator are #2, #4 and #6 from right to left.

NBCat, some engineer must really hate techs. Why would you take the same engine, fire it in the same sequence (ie, 2 cylinders nearest the front of hte engine, the 2 in the middle, then the 2 on the back side), but, give the motor a completely different cylinder numbering all because it went into a different car. That makes about as much sense as shoving bamboo under your fingernails.

That's because JLR adopted the ISO specifications, which changed the numbering sequence from what was previously used.

Thanks for all the help. I nearly changed the coil on cyl 1 instead of cyl 5. P0305 misfire.

They didn't.

Jaguar took a long time to follow the international standards. You're seeing the results of before & after.

Following the standards means things like OBD tools report the cylinder / injector number consistent with the car
