Default New Jag owner, new crash victim

I just leased a new 2014 XK-R here in South Florida and have been very impressed with the car. Great metallic grey paint, great sport interior and awesome acceleration. I gave up a Maserati GT for it and have to admit, the Jag is faster than anything I've owned to date. The car was one week old yesterday when my wife was driving it home and some idiot South Florida driver decided to change lanes without looking. Sideswiped the passenger side. Damage to the passenger door, rear panel, rear wheel---$4250. I hope the dealership's experience repairing aluminum bodied cars (Jaguar and Aston) pays off. Can't wait to get it back on the road.

What a bummer! It always hurts to have your car damaged but, hurts a lot more when it is a week-old Jaguar. Hope your lease came with gap insurance that does not nail you for any collision damage-caused depreciation at the end of the lease.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your mishap, South Florida drivers are the worst I've ever witnessed. I'm always on high alert driving in traffic here. Of course some idiot hit my XKR a few months ago while I was pulling into my building, but luckily all he hit was the right rear wheel. Then he speeds off. One grand to fix the wheel with expedited service from HRE.

We have the worst drivers of within any 1st world country here soflo.

What dealer are you taking the vehicle to? If you can I would recomend Alpine Jaguar in Ft Lauderdale, they do very fine work and have a good service dept and body shop. I use their service and drive 125 miles to get to it.

Count your blessings man! Sorry to hear about that! There some real idiots on the road...

I was rear ended in two of my Jags, and my 3000GT VR4 over the years. So, just be glad somebody did not hit you at speed in the rear end. The car is never the same after that!

Good luck with the repair work and don't forget to look into and be compensated for the diminished value of the car.

beh2010, Palm Beach Motor Cars is repairing it. They sell and repair both Jag and Aston-Martin. Seem to have a good reputation. We'll see in two weeks.

Good, heard good things about them. Hope it all works out for you. May I suggest that if you have any problems with the dealer ref any repair issue, contact Jaguar USA in NJ. their email is on the web. I have contacted them in the past and they were a great asset and DID make contact to the dealer and things did get accomplished! Not at Alpine but with another dealer. They are a good contact.

Ugh! That untimely crash reminds me of our experience when we took delivery of our new '4 XJR July 31st 2003 . The car was not yet a year old, when returning from a long weekend in Ocean City Md we got rear-ended. The traffic was "stop 'n go", then, at one point, sped up, then slowed to a stop, again. We were stopped when we got hit from behind and pushed into the hitch of a SUV stopped in front of us. We sustained $6-7K in damages, all of which, was paid by the other guy's insurance. If you recall, this was the first year for the aluminum bodied XJ series. The shop recommended by the dealer, did a superb job of repairing the damage. I have since used that shop for other little car body maladies. At the time, I too, was worried about the relevant experience in repairing aluminum.

I totally agree about the horrible drivers here in SE Florida. You have both the elderly that have their deficiencies and the very young that are reckless and bold. To add to the mix, the highway signs are totally confusing. I call I95 "Die 95". Too bad about your mishap, but at least you didn't purchase your car. Body work and accident history on a Jaguar XK will not make selling one day a fun task. However, if the other driver is ticketed, you could go for diminished value, which in your case would amount to mucho dollars. Good luck with your repair. Alpine or Palm Beach Jaguar are both reputable dealers, and I haven't had problems with either one.

I'm glad you like your XKR. I agree it's a fantastic car and much faster than the Maserati--and easier to maintain. Sorry to hear about your accident. Have the body install new panels with no body fill. You want your car returned to you in new condition. Welcome to the forum. Most people on this forum are quick to help a fellow Jag owner and you will find a wealth of information here which I sure will help you enjoy your new car and Jag experience for many years.

West Palm Beach Jaguar is a national prized dealer and would be a good place check out for the repairs. Good luck and keep us updated.
