New purchase XKR vibration???
Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 2010 XKR with 29k miles on it (read to ppi or not to ppi thread) and have a question about ride quality. I know this is a GT and is supposed to be firm but something just seems a little off???
Ive never driven another xk or xkr for that matter so I have nothing to compare mine to but I feel like there is too much vibration on the highway. I have a very faint vibration in the steering wheel and the seat through the 60's and becomes noticeable right at 70 and the worst between 75-85 which really stinks since I crusie control on the highway at 80. Accelerating through 90 the car seems to really smooth out and most of the vibration goes away and I feel like that is what the car is supposed to feel like.
What do all your cars xk/XKR's feel like on the highway? Should I be feeling these vibrations? I dint think I should so what's my first step to correcting this before it drives me up a wall haha?

Yep I agree here this is the 1st place to look. Also look at the tire tread and see where the wear is as your next step would be to get a 4 wheel alignment depending when the last one was done. Also how old are your tires , check the dates but I assume they have been replaced. I have a 2012 XKR and it rides smooth but firm and no vibration up to the speeds you are talking about.

this is a possibility. put approx. 38 psi in each of the tires and drive a bit to see if the tires become more round? if that does not work you should go have dynamic balancing done. from that you will learn a lot.

My 2010 is experiencing the exact same issue, and new tires/balance did not fix the problem.
In my case the vibration worsened in sweeping left turns and lessened in sweeping right turns, pointing to the passenger front as the likely culprit when it loads up in stress.
I can't feel any play in the bearings, but that doesn't mean there isn't damage there showing up under heavy loads. I just ordered a new front hub and bearing assembly to cover that base next.

This becomes an interesting post, as you did not trust the dealer, Madison Jaguar and took the Jaguar to what you thought was a top notch Jaguar independent shop.
I would think the inspection by the shop you chose would have taken the Jaguar XKR out on a run or a road test at varying speeds of some kind.
It may be hard to pin-point but would have to agree that tires and an alignment might be in order to correct the problem.
The last thing you want is to start putting money into the vehicle immediately after making the purchase. What a bummer that would be and would certainly create some burnout on the vehicle and the Jaguar brand.
This is a learning experience to see and follow. No matter who inspected the car, less than one week later, you are experiencing problems.
Not fun I am sure. Go for the tire check and alignment first. If not resolved, see a brake specialist to determine problems with rotors, pads etc.
Make sure all tire pressure meets the requirement of the car.
Hope it works out for you.

As far as I know it should be fronts only.
The part showed up today. Made by Timken (in the UK) and looks good..
A quick walk through the service manual says this should be a snap to install.

With my used XKR the causes were:-
1) Bent rim
2) Out of balance front tyres
3) Flat-spotted OEM Dunlops that were also turning into hockey pucks, a common problem in the desert SW.
Another thing to check is the state of the hydraulic filled bushings. One of those let go on my car recently.

Problem Solved...
Hope the OP has success as well....
Mine was indeed the bearings, and replacing the front hub assembly has returned a smile to my driving experience.
Very easy job for those mechanically inclined. Whole task was about 3 hours, including a run to the auto-parts store for a $3 tool I did not have.
