Default New rear suspension arm

Arsebiscuits.

The bush in one of my rear suspension arms has significant play - not quite an MOT failure, but with the huge tyres and stupid amounts of torque, there's a lot of strain going on it. Since I want to be able to track the car occasionally, I don't want things breaking on me - also, it tends to cause additional tyre wear, and tyres ain't cheap. Had a discussion about whether to just replace the bush, but was advised against it because the arm is alloy and they have found that the interference fit of the replacement bush is not always solid. I guess the alloy must stretch a bit.

So, new rear arm, £650 fitted

Just wondering; how did you identify the issue? Did you have vibration? How many miles is in the car?

I know how you feel--I had to have a rear axle replaced on my XKR for $1200!

Out of warranty? I would replace it before tracking. You don't want to take a chance--it will only get worse and you will always be thinking about it. Damn, all high end performance cars are expensive to maintain and own. This is my love/hate relationship with all high end performance cars. Can you source the part through ebay? I've seen complete new XKR-S suspensions on ebay Europe. I believe you have the XKR-s suspension. I've heard the dealer price for the dynamic pack suspension parts (XKR 75, XKR optioned, XKR-S) is over twice the price of the standard suspension parts. Yikes.

I didn't - it was picked up in the MOT (vehicle fitness) test as an 'advisory', i.e. not a failure, but something that is likely to cause a failure in future. I don't want to wait until it gets worse, particularly as it will lead to premature tyre wear. The car has done about 30k miles.

They also picked up some minor play in the shock mounting bushes, but it wasn't enough to require replacement yet - and I'll hear them clonking if they do get worse suddenly. The shocks are steel, so can just be re-bushed; I'll get that done next time.

I agree - I don't want to put a part under pressure when it's on its way out. And yeah, this is an expensive hobby. I'm used to having suspension bushes replaced, because Jags are big heavy cars and they give their suspensions a pounding - XJ-S was particularly bad for it. However, this issue of steel bushes in alloy arms is a new one for me.

I doubt I could have sourced a new one via eBay, I don't trust a used one, and I don't really want to be without the car while I wait for a part. I expect the 75's front suspension upright is more expensive, since it's a limited-run part, but the back-end mounts are standard, as far as I know. The cost for the part was about £450 including tax, which is not too bad, really.

Default rear arm bush

I use this old tread for the rear arms related info

I just replaced rear upper and lower arms bushings
It was not easy to identify what are the bushes P.N. as Jaguar do not sell them so if anyone looks for it, here it is

The list is:
2x Lemforder 37710 01
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/lemforder/7889006

4x Lemforder 37704 01
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/lemforder/7889001

Total £ 176,48

these are the ones that are shot
others are simple stiff rubber which do not wear out

good luck
