New wheels on a 2010 XK
#21
I trial fitted the wheels and I have a few issues.
1. Original nuts do not fit in the counter bored hole of the new wheels. See attached pic. I'll have to find some new nuts.
2. I ordered the spacers 20mm thick and this is too much for the look I want. I won't go thru the details of the stack up but basically with a 15 mm spacers up front and none in the rear, the wheels will be sitting 15 mm further out up front and 10 mm in the rear.
3. The spacers and rings fit perfectly with a nice snug slip fit. No feel able play.
4. I have plenty of space in the wheels for the cars studs to stick out beyond the spacer and not interfere with the wheel.
5. One wheel has rim damage. I didn't know what to expect from the vendor I purchased from on eBay, but the experience, so far, has been stellar. They will replace the wheel and I can keep the damaged one. 2-3 weeks to get the new wheel so I am taking the damaged one to a local wheel repair shop this morning and see what can be done for what price. I have attached a pic.
So on we go...

Doug,
Really like your "pioneering" spirit. Without people like you willing to try new things first, I'd be lost modifying my car.
For the record, two days ago I "broke the rules" and installed H&R 15mm spacers on all 4 wheels of my '12 XKR (20" Takoba's). Results are spectacular.
With 15mm spacers installed.
Stock (no spacers)

That's a nasty little "ding" ya got there mate. Me thinks, a good wheel shop can fix that, though.
I spent $600 to get my Cremonas ship-shape, as one was cracked. So, for $600 *******, I now have another set of wheels and tires for me Jag.
When I replaced my wheels, I too, I needed to order correct lugs. I still have my OEM lugs to go with the Cremonas.
Good Luck with your fix.....

I went down to Wheel Specialists in Tempe Saturday morning and was quoted $200 for wheel repair and no guaranty the would not crack during repair rendering them useless, so that was an easy call. I will check some other places.
I have measured the front wheel face location again and came up with new numbers. Measure twice right? bottom line is that I now need an 8 mm spacer. I will modify the 20 mm pacers that I had made.
The damaged wheel is usable according to Wheel Specialists.
I bought a new se of splined lugs. Thanks Richzak. Thanks GrtShrk for the thumbs up.
I now believe that the wheel face location varies on the 2007 and up KXs depending on the wheels (20s, 19s, staggered or not?) and other variables. I think that it would be best to provide the distance between the wheel face and the outside surface of the body at the wheel to properly compare spacer requirements.
So at this point, I may go ahead and install the wheels with the dinged wheel and wait the 2-3 weeks for the new one to be installed.
Have a great Sunday.

bought a set of H&R wheel spacers today, i'm putting 20mm on the front as i want the wheels flush with the wheel arch and 15mm on the rear. I used a straight edge against the wheel arch and measured the distance in to the rims I've on , so should be good. Does anyone know what the torque setting for the nuts on these spacers.

Thanks for the reply, I'd like to know how it works out. Thanks for pics.

Perhaps. But rarely do you see oem wheels break and you do get what you pay for with wheels.
Most inexpensive wheels are designed for much lighter cars equipped with VTec and then fitted to cars like ours.

Well...I finally got the wheels on. Very happy with them. The outside face of the wheels sit 15 mm beyond stock and I love the look. Here are some pics. By the way the car drives and handles like original.
I'll try and get the car out and get some better pictures soon. I just had hip replacement surgery 17 days ago and still under some restriction.
