Ok where is the Battery!
Trending Topics
Ha Ha Gus, obviously first place I looked! It says remove Trunk access panel on left side and shows a diagram of the battery, but Ha it's not there you can see the Negative Earth ( which the all knowing manual says is in the Spare wheel well, which it is not) so it's deeper into the trunk as White XKR says, thanks very much by the way.
That's NOT the negative cable on the left. That is a hot cable coming from the pos side of the batt and is used for jumpering the car if needed.
That terminal on the left attaches to a cable that runs under the car towards the battery location. The neg termenal for the jump start is in the area of the spare tire/tire changing tools.
Ignore this post if irrelevant. Much like turning the tv off when you don't like what is on.

Howdy again Triple G;
Needless to say I am in the same spring boat.
Just want to confirm that the battery location in the convertible 2004 XKR is the same as the coupe....because the manual shows it being where the spare tire is.
Before I squeeze in the boot sideways, the car is backed up against the wall, just thought I would ask and make sure they didn't move it to under the rear seat....which will also be a squeeze.
cheers,
jc

If your car is a 2004 then the battery is to the right of the spare tire his car is a 2007 and it is not the same as yours.

Gus was correct of course. Thanks again.
I will say that the finish of the carpeted compartment is so good that even with the cover off of the spare over the spare tire well you can't tell there is another compartment under there unless you know and in 18 months I never had a reason to look for it.
Interestingly after jumping it with the trusty Volvo I let it run for half an hour and then did a run to the store, 10 miles round trip.
Checked the battery with the car off and it was showing 12.32 volts, which is a normal charge....so hopefully I won't need to slow charge it on top of that.
I did notice that while this was going on the driver's door window would lower another inch every time I opened the door but not go up when I closed it.
But recalled a thread in here about how to reset them....run them down to lowest position and hold for five seconds then with the door closed run them up and hold for five seconds again. This is critical on the convertible to have the door closed because I noticed that before the reset the window will actually go higher than the top seals. This info is correctly in the manual as opposed to the battery location which is incorrect.
And let me add here that once again the Jaguar engineers are smarter than most idiots like me.
Because as I was cruising to the store I thought ah more engine revs faster recharge...so I downshifted the automatic...
Into reverse!?!??!...
Never have really got the hang of the J gate and was kind of dozing and didn't even think about it.....hadn't driven it since Nov.
I am happy to say that nothing happened....it did not try to go into reverse at 70mph...I am not even sure it came out of drive...but since it didn't pick up revs I noticed and thought what the hey!
Quickly went back to drive and the other way around the J gate...
So thank you engineers every where for once again saving my bacon.
cheers and happy trails,
jc

Even if it is to the wrong section for your XKR!
Please to hear you got it started easily.
I've read that reverse selection is inhibited when traveling forwards above 8 mph to avoid damage to the transmission. Now you've proved the theory without blowing it apart, I'll not be too worried to try it myself.

Hey 3G thanks;
I noticed it was the wrong thread/forum after Gus posted his answer I just did a battery search and this popped up, lucky me.
Wonder if the shift cut out is the same when going from reverse to forward at rapid speed on the XKR.
Many years ago a friend lent me his automatic XJ6 but neglected to mention that the brakes weren't working.
He lived on a fairly steep hill in Encinitas, California, so when I backed out of the drive onto a main road I was going down hill backwards faster and faster with my girl friend in the car asking me what I was doing as I weaved around cars going up the hill, changed lanes so at least we weren't going to 'rear end' any one immediately while I tried the brakes repeatedly, hand brake, nothing worked, and thinking about what I should hit to slow us down....as I steered looking over my shoulder.
After a block of this I revved the engine to the red line and dropped it into low gear and it didn't stall, didn't smell that good, but it didn't stall and stopped us and carried on up the hill.
So I am glad it didn't have a cut out then and I am glad it has a cut out now.
cheers,
jc
