I have a 2007 Jaguar XKR and after I start the car I am receiving "Parking Brake Fault" and "Cruise control unavailable". The parking brake won't release. I have tried leaving the battery cable disconnected for 30 minutes, I checked the EPB fuse and replaced it. I would like to resolve the issue myself if possible. I have read where a low battery can cause this to happen, the battery appears to be fully charged and when I start the car there doesn't appear to be any issue. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
How does a battery appear to have no issue with voltage? There is a very fine line between acceptable 12.6 volts and an unacceptable 12.5 volts. Yes, it's menial, but it does make a huge difference.
You need a voltage checker of whatever you can find. I use a multimeter, but that's because I have probably six of them. Others use OBD and dedicated voltage meters.
You COULD bring your loose battery to an auto parts store like Autozone or O'Reilley's and they will charge and load test your battery free of charge.
Yes, the symptoms you state are 90% of the time related to a low battery condition.
Yes do as Cee Jay suggests. Get a voltage reading after the car has sat all night. This is the first step.
Low voltage can cause all sorts of odd symptoms.

I just checked it after I turned the car off and it was 12.29, I think I am going to have it tested. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. Thanks for the input.
I took the battery to Batteries Plus they charged it for two hours and I checked it with my volt meter and it was 12.4. They replaced the battery I came home and installed it, started the car and it still has the same problem, cruise control not functioning and parking brake fault. I hope somebody has a solution, I have run out of solutions.
12.4 was indeed too low a voltage, you did need a new battery.
The battery they sold you also has low voltage since it sat around the store for months, sat at the wholesaler for months, sat at the warehouse for months, and sat on trucks for a lot of miles.
Nearly every "new" battery needs at least some charge when purchased. I charge my 'new' batteries for at least four hours with a 10-amp actual charger. Not a trickle charger nor a maintainer.
You still may have a problem unrelated to the battery, but with a low battery you can't fix the real problem.
I appreciate the input. He said it was fully charged and it was 12.8 on my multi-meter. I guess I will go buy a charger in the morning and charge it just to make sure. I hate electronic issues, mechanical are so much easier to deal with. I put a code reader on it earlier this week, I forget the code but it couldn't communicate with the EPB.
This is the current situation and update. I don't think I mentioned the EPB is locked and I can't move the car, due to the EPB fault and cruise control disabled notifications. I also received a code U0128 "Lost communication with Park Brake Control Module. I swapped out the battery for a new one. It is showing 12.8 on the multi meter. I have reset by holding the negative and positive cable together. I also followed the reset steps above other than I can't drive the car due to the parking brake not releasing. Unless someone has some other suggestion I am going to contact the shop and schedule to have it towed in for repair. I don't think I have left anything out, any questions please ask. I am have no other idea of what to do. Signed frustrated.
Well, that's not good.
The park brake module is behind the rear seats, I don't know exactly where, but they come out pretty easily.
The module looks pretty basic, here's a 'diagram' of the basic shape.
You could try to locate it and see if maybe it got disconnected? Damaged wires maybe? I don't know, but some knowledge is better than being blind.
Do you by chance have a workshop manual? There may be a link to one in this forum, but the regular location is gone, you'd have to search. It'd help in this deal.
Hey Cee Jay thanks for the information. I have tried to locate it and so far I am unsuccessful. Unfortunately I don't have a shop manual. I will take another quick look this morning. Then I am going out of town for the weekend. I will take a look for the manual that would be a big help. Thanks
I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. The parking brake control module needs replaced the part number is C2P18376, does anybody have a source that offers less expensive pricing for new parts or a good source period.
Here's a used module for only $61.66 on eBay, a small fraction of the cost of a new one. I'd give it a try. What do you have to lose? eBay guarantees it'll work or your money back. https://ebay.us/m/w7HYuP
The dealer probably won't accept that used part. If so, I would have the car towed to a local independent ASE Certified mechanic. You'll save thousands of $$$$.
The dealer was going to charge $1500 for the part. I did find new ones on different Jaguar sites for $1386. I have chosen to purchase a used part from Noma Auto Parts on Ebay, they are located in Texas. They check the VIN and verify it is the correct part before shipping it. I also paid extra and they are sending the part overnight so I should have it this morning. The dealer has agreed to install the used part, so I will take it to them on Monday. Noma warranties the part for 90 days, for the savings I am willing to take the chance. The air conditioner isn't cooling fully and they say it has a small leak, they haven't been able to locate the leak yet. I may just have them charge it and see how long that will last. They told me the valve cover gaskets are leaking, i inquired as to how much that would be and it is $1400, they said the labor is four hours. I may look at doing that myself, I will check it when I get it back, I don't believe they are leaking much. The car has been very dependable, it only has about 45,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance this is the only major repairs, not bad for an eighteen year old car. As always thanks for the input.
