Default Plate Holder

Has anyone installed the electric "James Bond" type revolving plate on the front of an XK?

Hi,
Not sure what you mean by "James Bond" type, but, I installed a non- electric version on mine. The electric version would have needed wiring and a switch, that I didn't want nor feel was worth the effort. Sure, it would have been a "gee whizz" kool install, but that's all.
It's called a "Show N Go" and sold by a company called Altec. It was a breeze to install on my '08 XK-R. Only had to add two additional 5/16" holes in the center, near the front of the belly pan. I chose the center, as there are oil coolers on either side behind the lower grill. I posted pics of my experience here, last fall, after receiving a $70 ticket.

RedRider48, We are neighbors as I am in Old Town Alexandria. The "James Bond" reference was the fact that the plate would be able to flip. Thanks for the quick reply. I checked the site on Amazon and it responded that there was not a match for an XK. What was the part number. You are the best.

hi neighbor,
I would be very surprised, it didn't fit. Look at the belly pan in the center location. if it's flat in the front (see pic) it should fit. In this pic, the bolt in the foreground is a factory bolt attaching the belly pan, the two in the rear are two 5/16" holes that get rubber grommets and screw bolts supplied with the kit. The elongated hole in the center front, I made a little longer, to facilitate getting the mounting bracket just right to allow the plate to hinge up yet to be too obvious.
Wanna make a trip to Annapolis Cars and Coffee one Sunday morning we can arrange to meet and greet. PM for details

Any problems with scraping it?
I've considered such mountings, but the ground clearance is already pretty small, so I've been leery of trying it.
What's your ground clearance under the nose now?

The ground clearance is 6" as shown. With the plate folded (concealed) it's about the same, but then, I do this only when at a cruise'n.
I'm only leery of ground clearance when approaching those cement tire barriers. But then, aren't we all?
Adding this with it's minimal projection is not a deal breaker in my mind. The motorized version may add an additional 1/2", or so though.

I also installed the manual "Show and Go" - it's a universal fit - on my 08 XK. Easy install and works fine. I thought about the 'wow' factor of the electric retractable version, but didn't feel like futzing with wiring for this project. I live in Nebraska, which makes it mandatory to show both front and rear plates, and this inexpensive product allowed me to do just that without having to drill holes in the front bumper cover. Well worth the $$$ IMO.

I put the remote control show and go on my XKR. It is very cool, works great, BUT it is now the lowest point on the nose and it will scrape.

Default Show-N-Go

Thanks to all and to RedRider48 for all of your help. I received my holder from Amazon (what a great outfit) Monday evening and because I do not like to lay down in the gravel of my drive, I will have my trusted mechanic do my installation shortly. I have to tell all that I am very pleased and impressed with the Forum. Members seemingly post good questions and the advice given by others appears to be very sound. There must be a "Jerk - Joker" filter to keep it so clean. Keep it up in fact keep everything up.

I think good members attract more good members...that is a big part of the success of this forum.

Also, very importantly, our moderators are are exceptional, as is our administrator Jim.

Please see the mid-Atlantic section also...we have a couple of local get together's each year.

Welcome!
