Default Problems with convertible top on 2007 XK

Lately I’ve had problems with opening and closing the top to my 2007 XK. Very slow opening and sometimes needs some manual help. When trying to close, it starts coming up a couple of inches and can’t go any further without help. I checked the hydraulic fluid level and it’s at the full mark. I assume it’s the original fluid.
Any suggestions??

I'd say your pump is on the way out. Ten-Eleven years of year round usage several times a day can take its toll. So would a few times a month.

Cee Jay,
Thank you for your prompt response. My mechanic had a few suggestions:
The oil may be old and may need to be replaced or
the hydraulic lift supports my be internally leaking.
What at are your thoughts ??

Try resetting your windows. The top is programmed to pause for about 15=25 seconds if the windows are not reset. To reset the windows, do this for each window with the top closed:

· Ignition ON
· Raise window up to the top seal and release
· Raise again until window stops moving
· Release
· Press Raise button again for a 2 seconds
· Lower window fully
· Release
· Press lower button again for a further 2 seconds until a relay is heard to CLICK

If this solves the problem, and then it comes back again later, your battery is weak.

Yeah, always listen to THAT guy ⇑⇑⇑ when discussing convertible tops. He knows his stuff. ALSO, you really should buy his remote top controller. It's a seriously cool and useful gizmo. Once you have one you'll hate yourself for not having it sooner.

ANOTHER "also"...... I still think it's the pump. I had one slowly go blooey in my Mustang. A new pump and Perfect again. These probably use FORD pumps anyway, tho I've never looked.

See post #4.
Had the slow top problem myself, until I remembered I had the battery disconnected while doing some other work.
Did the window reset, and the top was back to normal.
+2 on theJagWrangler.com Remote Top and Rear Window Control, best mod you can do.

I have an 07 xk convertible. The top works fine, but the fluid level in the reservoir has dropped to the minimum mark, and there is a residue of oil in the cavity below the pump. A quick examination doe not reveal an obvious leak from any of the many hoses or from the reservoir. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

If you have to manually reset the top up or down .... WAIT for it to depressurize before pushing it to far ! Don't do as I did Instead of just new seals for the cylinder - I needed a whole new one ( aka $1K+ ) cost + the other side etc.. ended up with over $2k bill. Take your time and look it over...

You know it's funny b/c a few months ago I had my top act up and stop working. Steve ( WhiteXKR ) was GREAT and helped me know for sure it was the cylinders. I called To Hydraulics and spoke with that same gentleman. He said someone had just been in with an 07 XK and that they had recorded the whole procedure - but it wouldn't be available for a few weeks/months ! lol I should've known it would appear here This is a great video and am sure a number of vert guys will find it priceless !

Thanks !!

PULLED ON THE CORD NEAR THE HYDRAULIC PUMP

Hi Forum,

I recently had problems with my convertible top. While investigating what was ultimately low hydraulic fluid in my pump, I stupidly pulled on the small pull cord near the pump and now I cannot get the top to operate. I get the message "Top Unlocked". Can anybody suggest a way to correct the situation?

Thanks

Patrick

Turned out to be a loose pressure release screw (allen key) on the side of the pump!
