2009 XKR

I was having intermittent issues with faults on the driver side self leveling/steering head lamp and faults with the R/H turn signal, both issues appeared at the end of last winter (disappeared in early spring) and came back a couple of days ago. I had looked at the Jag wiring manuals previously as I figured with them being intermittent it was mostly likely a wiring issue. That they were "connected" was apparent as the right turn signal fault would bring on the head lamp issue when turning. The wiring manuals revealed that the drivers side head lamp and the right turn lights had a commom ground on the passenger side lower engine compartment.



I jacked the cat up and pulled the wheel, the ground lugs looked corroded. When I tried to unscrew the nut the bolt sheared off. It looks like the bolt had some sort of galvanic action happening that was still conducting power.





What I did was drill and tap a hole (5/16) and reconnected the grounds lugs.

 

Result?

I have a 2010 with the occasional right turn-signal-activating-headlights issue, BUT there's no ground wire attached per the posts above on either the passenger or driver side wheel wells. Thoughts?

I looked for the 2010 manuals it says the same location for ground point G06 - they may have moved the point (even though the manual says otherwise) under the wheel arch covers to prevent the issue with the pre 2010 models, wiring is the same for them both.

Forgot to add that ground G01 is under the behind left front wheel arch liner

 

Hmmm, a grounding point in a wheel well... not very protected.

 

My thoughts exactly.

Checked the passenger and driver side grounds (under plastic covers by firewall) and they were OK. I'll look-see at the driver's side under the wheel arch cover this evening. I assume there isn't a passenger side ground under the passenger side wheel arch cover.
