Default Purchasing 2013 XKR on 2011 XK trade

Greetings Cat Crew,
Im upgrading after a year of loving my XK but want a little more power.. After hashing out with the sales manager VP?... Its like he's so insistent that I have to purchase the cosmetic detailing package for 4,898.00.. I do all my own paint correction, wet sanding, clay bar, paint sealant, ceramic coating and any other detail work.. I have never in my life heard of a detailing package costing 5,000!!!.. Lrior to that there was a 4,995.00 service contract- I'm in Wisconsin the dealer is in North Carolina... I said when would I ever utilize your services?... So that was taken off... I'm haggling about the cosmetic package now.. It looks like they are trying to cover the trade in or making a 19,000 commission?... Any suggestions or recommendations?

Seems high to me. Coincidently, I will be parting with my 2013 XKR once I find the right spec of the next beast. 63K and always dealer serviced and recent CC to a marine grade. I'm second owner, bought in 2016. LJR replaced the engine at 20K. If you're interested and not in a rush we should talk.

You should NEVER have to pay for dealer prep. Never. That's part of offering a vehicle for sale.

They are also CHARGING you over four grand to take your XK. The price would go down if you kept it. Sure, you'd still have the loan, but what could you sell it for directly? Probably not much over the trade-in because of miles and they do pay off your current loan. But still... that is a chunk of money to get rid of a car.

What is "Dealer Cost"??? Is that the "DOC" or Documentation fee??? $1000 is HUGE. That's straight built-in dealer profit. It shouldn't be any higher than maybe $300. It is also totally negotiable.

DMV cost is almost $800? What, to get a title and plates? I don't know about Wisconsin, but that's a lot.

Taxes are already listed, do those match up to the ACTUAL taxes or did they pad that amount also? Sometimes dealers charge the TOTAL SALE amount for tax to the customer but only do the ACTUAL tax on the sale price to the state. They keep the rest.

PLUS.... A dealer in North Carolina SHOULD NOT CHARGE YOU FOR TAXES OR LICENSING OUT OF STATE. It should be zeroes across the board!

Now for the actual price of the car... about $29,000. Five grand for extra stuff. Is that even within a realm of reasonable? A quick perusing of cars for sale says that $29,000 it's close to okay, not great but not horrible. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! For that price you get a DETAILED and ready-to-go car without paying extra for a crazy detail that should already be DONE.

I think your dealer is trying to fleece you, in several different ways.

You're going to pay almost $40,000 to get a car 2 years newer than the one you're driving? Really?

Got to agree with Cee Jay on his comments. I’ve purchased 2 cars from out of state, and didn’t pay DMV charges to the dealer’s state, I paid in my home state at the local DMV office. If the cosmetic stuff is already on the car, it should be included in the list price, if they want to add it now as part of the sale, you have every right to decline it. And that dealer cost? Really? Their profit should be buried in the list price.

It is an /R upgrade, and vastly fewer miles. I do agree though, that's a lot of money.

I bought my ‘15 XKR last June from a dealer in Atlanta. The only adder was a gps tracker…which I negotiated down a tad. Given where they were located, every car gets one installed before going on the lot. Tell them you aren’t paying the add on crap. There are others for sale..

I ordered a new F250 a couple years ago and upon delivery the dealer put GPS on it and charged me the $400 plus a year of LoJack. I politely declined and they insisted, stating they would void the order and keep the truck. This was in the post-covid chip shortage and every vehicle was a premium and Dealer Markups were rampant and huge. It's actually a Fair Trade violation to force the purchase of a dealer add-on that was not requested. The dealer always has the option of removing whatever they installed. Of course, that could be a way to decline a sale also, for buyer and seller.

Greetings Buddhaboy!!
im in no rush as that gives time to see my XK outright.. So you think that quote is also high?... He is trying to push that detailing package on me and says it includes 12 hours of paint correction... If the car is in that bad of shape I don't want it!!!.. I do all my own paint correction, wet sanding 3000,5000 trizact, Clay Lubber, Foam Cannon 700psi. wash any pressure stronger can damage your parking sensors, Paint sealer, I have used ceramic coatings but I don't swear by them... Regardless, there is no cosmetic on this planet worth 4,898.00.. And if you need to spend 12 hours on a car to correct the paint that car is in bad shape to begin with..
So, Buddah may I give you my email?
What is the exterior color of your XKR? Mine is PEL metallic black (ultimate black)... The interior is black with piano black inserts and trim. I do not like the wood detail on the XKR unless it's the white convertible with cream interior, that looks esthetically pleasing.
If you can post a picture of the exterior and an interior of the dash from driver side door open.. I hope I don't sound picky but I'm looking for that specific interior or the brushed aluminum...
Have you replaced the water pump, aluminum oil cooler pipe, front coolant crossover flange w/ aluminum?... I replaced all of my pipes including the rear co flange w/ aluminum. JRL upgraded the thermostat pipe with the outlet tube to bleed port on WP.
I put a new DensoRemy alternator in, upgrade 3- wiring, AGM battery, oil changes every 3,500...
New vented rotors, carbon pads, Michelin Pilot Sports.
What price should that XKR be at in North Carolina?

Hooe to hear from ya soon!!..
Thank You Buddah for the time you took to read this text.. We love our cars!!

I agree with Cee Jay too.. And you also have a good point piggy backing off CJ regarding the DMV.. What about state sales tax? I have to pay NC taxes correct?

I have to go back to look at my documents, but I don’t think so, think it was my home state taxes only.

Found this on the web:

Buyers always pay sales tax in their home state where the vehicle will be registered. Vehicle sales, whether they are from a dealership or a private party, can happen anywhere, but the final sales tax is paid where the vehicle lives. While that can be a bummer for people looking to save a few bucks on tax, the good news is that you won’t have to pay taxes twice.

Hi Matusco,

The joy of dealers never ends. Mine is black/black trim/charcoal interior with red piping and piano black inserts.
Some coolant pipes were replaced in 2018, I don't recall needing to do the water pump.

regarding paint correction, my SO has a dark green paint, that has a few clear coat scratches. I have tried ScratchX and Meguires paint cutter, but they are still there. Any ideas?

I just purchased a 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio from Carolina Luxury Imports in North Carolina, in early November. No North Carolina taxes were charged to me and the dealer sent me all the paperwork perfectly pre-filled out to register/title my car in Texas. Texas sales tax was charged when I went to register in Texas. If the dealer in NC charges you sales tax for your state, then they have to send it to your state, but you may never know if they overcharged you and pocketed the difference. Better option is to tell them not to add the tax and take care of it yourself.
