Default Questions about buying an 08 XKR convertible

Hi all,

As the title says, I'm currently looking into an 08 XKR convertible as a fun second car. I'm been looking through these forums over the past couple of weeks and know about some of the common problems, including the A/C condenser leak, battery issues, and the leather separating from the dash. The car I'm looking at has about 39k miles and seems to have been serviced regularly at dealerships based on the Carfax. The asking price is around $22k.

One reservation I have is that the car has been sitting on the lot for about 7 months. Besides an oil change and potentially changing the battery, is there anything else I should be changing or looking out for if I decide to buy the car?

Also, there is an 07 XKR convertible for sale nearby as well with 36k miles. Was there much of a difference between the 07 and 08 models? The 07's Carfax doesn't mention any maintenance records. I'm guessing the previous owners did the maintenance themselves, but I would probably have to get a Jag mechanic to inspect it to verify. Thanks in advance.

The most obvious difference between the 07 and 08 XKR is the elimination of the 07 power antenna and replacing it with the one inside the rear spoiler on the 2008. The Ford Taurus-like horizontal front grille bar was a feature of the 2007 XK, and not the XKR; it was discontinued after 2007.

Only you can do your due diligence. CarFax is useful only to find reasons to NOT by a car; it should NEVER be a reason to buy a car because it doesn't disclose everything - only those things that are reported to them. A Pre Purchase Inspection from a Jaguar dealer to their Certified Pre-Owned standards is worth the cost, as is a similar inspection by a body shop for paint and body repairs to Jaguar-approved standards. Those written reports are useful for negotiating a lower price from the seller.

I have 3 Jaguars with clean carfaxes. All 3 have had full repaints. A carfax is exactly as Stuart says. Get the PPI as youve mentioned and maybe make a deal on either!

I think the steering wheel design may have changed too. '07 having more wood on the wheel. I'd go for an '08 with all else equal. Make sure to have a thorough inspection of the body, engine, and suspension.

This seems rather high, KBB tells me that would be an $18K car in US.

Thanks. After talking to a coworker, I'm planning on expanding my search nationwide.

I don't know where you are located, but there is a very nice looking 2014 in Suwanee GA listed for $21975. I have a new to me 08 with 66K on the clock, and some issues I am having to work through, but I am attributing that to lack of care by the previous owner, yes, I wish it was perfect but for what I paid and the fact that I do most of my own wrenching plus knew going in what I was getting into, I am happy as this is just going to be my drive to work car. Good luck with the search and have fun.

Thanks for the heads up. I decided to increase my budget, so I'm now looking for 2012+ models. I've had a few good leads in the past week. I hope to make a post here in the near future with pictures of my new (to me) Jag.
