Default Rattling noise - timing chain?

Hi,

Today after cold start I thought to open the hood and this is the sound I heard:

Is that timing chain on its way out? Mileage is ~112k km, afaik the chain has not been changed before.

In the last thread (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-noise-287851/) I asked about clicking which the forum members deemed to be injectors.
This time, the clicking is much less pronounced from behind the rattle.
Recording was made in a quiet underground parking while the previous thread was in open parking with some ambient noise (and the car was warm). On the other hand, one can argue that echo would amplify lower freq rattling more than higher freq ticking.

I never heard the timing chain rattle in this particular engine so erring on side of caution and asking.

If you have speakers with some low tones (ie not a phone), you can also hear intermittent "whine" (akin to imitating flute using an empty bottle).

All in all, would you be worried or business as usual?

Take the engine cover off. I use a long screwdriver with the handle against my ear to locate noisy parts of the engine. Place the tip of the driver on various parts of the engine to isolate the noise

Haven't been able to hear anything different at the end of the screwdriver, no matter when I put it. It wasn't very long though and had plastic handle. Metal wrench extension also didn't yield any results.

Here's how it sound without the cover, (3?) seconds after starting, before the revs settle:

In the second video, it sounds very much like a connecting rod knock.

Could that be the injection pumps?

(Test for big end knocking is it becomes louder under load at low rpm)
In my experience with slack chains (though not this engine), they produce an irregular and non-constant noise as they randomly slap the guides, most apparent at a low rpm. I didn't pick that noise up.

The turbos are known to have a noisy fuel injection system. Going to a thicker oil wouldn't lower the noise. That said, I would go a little thicker oil and the best quality oil, to note the difference, if any.

This appears to be a naturally aspirated engine, not supercharged.

Going to a higher viscosity oil may lead to problems with the VVT units.

Some oil filters don't have check valves, so the sound of "lack of oil" on start up will last longer.

I think if it were me, I'd at least pay for an inspection & report. It doesn't sound like a 'nice' noise.

@Spurge I'm hoping it's just the injectors business as usual

@sony2000
That's N/A (no supercharger).
I'm running 5w20 Liqui Moly with all the relevant JLR norms.

I'm aware of the Jag specification changed to 0w20, however after reading copious amounts of threads on this, I understand that aimed to reduce emissions and not extend engine longevity.
In Poland I get mostly ~7-30 C temperatures, rarely going to 0 and below for short periods in winter.

Yeah I guess professional inspection is in order.
I'm always trying to get opinion here first. To schedule a meaningful appointment with the only indy worth their weight (vs Jags) in my area is an endeavor measured in weeks. A main dealership visit is only going to be a waste of time and money.
