Default Rear seat delete

I'm throwing this out there to determine what others have thought about the "weenie" rear seating area in our model.
While they do look nice, they are so not functional in their present form and I've been thinking of pulling it all out and starting from scratch to build it into a rear luggage storage and carry area.
Am I the only one thinking this way......?
I got the idea, when I pulled all of the seating area out when adding the the JagWranglers's Remote Top Kit.

Another update...the frame is complete and in-place. It is constructed using 3/4" sq. aluminum stock and welded for strength. There will be a fixed back section with central door for access to the fuse panel. The cutouts on either side of the deck will allow for access to two storage compartments located below and accessed by doors on either side of the "hump".
Of paramount importance, aside from seeing this plan to fruition, is to insure this "Rear Seat Delete" project is completely and easily reversible and to include there will be "NO" holes or changes to the existing structure and components previously installed. This project will be as easy a "drop-in"system as the rear seat components were to remove.

I just bought one yesterday and had the exact same thought! Maybe use the leather from the rear "seats" to cover the luggage holder?

I would do this conversion in a second if I could also fold down the partition that separates the trunk from the back seats (the upright part of the rear seat).. That would give a useful amount of space to lay things in. Unfortunately, all the electronics and the battery are attached to that wall, and all wires lead there so it would be a very involved process to move everything. But I do think others have done this before and have documented it here on the forums. I am sure I remember it being done on the X100 forum.

Yeah, there is a ton of important stuff there. Add to this, in the case of the CVTs, you have two roll-over protection devices.

Back in 2015 a poster that went by sherbercars and Mina Galleries had something going with a rear seat delete and extended headrests. I just tried to find the thread and all I could come up with was the name Sherbercars and Mina Galleries. You might want to check with Kris at Mina galleries.

I bought my XK specifically for the backseat, but not really as a seat, all I need is a package shelf, so a flat-bottomed thinly lined package shelf would be ideal.

Actually, I think it was about that time, when I was in discussion with both Bernie (SherberCars) and Kris at Mina Galleries. Bernie sent me a handful of pics of his developments. Kris, I'm thinking got too busy and never continued the project. I thought the Tonneau cover was a neat idea....

You will actually LOSE space with a seat delete. The way they are designed from the factory they provide as much room as possible. It may become a bit more FUNCTIONAL with a delete, but I'm going to keep mine. Besides, it looks better with seats.

I'm looking at the re-utilization of the space below what is considered the deck. I'm thinking having two hatch covers that will exposed the area below create a storage space in one and a small insulated cooler in the other. It's a concept, at the moment. Therefore, not losing space, so much, as going using space. Will see.....

Good thinking @RedRider48 ! will you match with the carpet or the leather with your lining?

Just happened to see this, That'll be my endeavor. Perhaps, by now, you've seen my followups?

Default Update Pics-Rear seat Delete

Have completed the "box frames" for the deck storage area. I spent a number of hours creating cardboard patterns. These will be covered in the same materials used for the deck and back panels. The floor of the storage area will have a sheet of insulated material covered with a carpet material. These two storage areas measure approximately 12 X 8 X 8. One will be a place for an soft sided insulated cold drink bag.

Made from corrugated plastic board

This is cool for a vert but never enough clearance for a coupe with the front seat all the way forward to access it without difficulty. It would be nice for the coupe owners to do a half seat "fold down" maybe so we could at least get a set of golf clubs in the car:-). But I'm too lazy to design and build one so....whining about it seems my best option.

Aren't the stacks of electronics and battery directly behind the seat in the coupe also? Problematic having a floppy rear seat that way. Plus, the 'vert has those pop-up roll bars there also.

Yes agreed but you could move most from the passenger side as there's no battery to contend with. Just not worth it to be able to drop down a sliver to accommodate my clubheads.
