While I was unable to locate the coolant leak, I had success prying off the red tail light!

what is a good adhesive to apply this to the clear tail light on my XK?

 

Plastic modeler's cement?

 

Before using the plastic modeler's cement, I'd experiment with it using the remainder of the lenses on your donor lamp. Modeler's cement works by chemically melting the model plastic temporarily so that the plastic parts fuse together. The reaction only works on specific types of plastic. If the lens is styrene then all is good, but if it isn't styrene then at best it won't bond and at worst it the melting will be permanent.

I would use CA super glue -- Loctite makes a gel version that is much easier to control and won't run all over the lens.

 

I would consider a 2 part epoxy ... the tail lamp is exposed and subject to harsher conditions... CA glue can be brittle and does not always work well on every type of plastic. As others mentioned, experiment with a few types of glue before doing the permanent fix.

I used Gorilla Glue which is a Polyurethane Glue. So far it has adhered well. I let it adhere for 24 hours before I drove it. So far it has held well. I looked up the type of plastic for tail lights and it is supposed to be PMMA. I checked and Polyurethane glue is safe for PMMA. Should thaf fail, I have some JB Weld epoxy I will use as a back up.

These tail lights from the 2010 and up LED models are very fragile and are prone to becoming unbonded with time, much more so that the 07-09 incandescent versions. I sold a perfect condition working version(very solid when shipped) of one from a 2010 XKR and shipped it in a properly padded box to a customer. When it arrived it had already delaminated on its own just from transport. Otherwise in great shape. The customer decided to just epoxy it back on and all was well. My XKR is the older version but I think if I owned a later model I would consider installing a few spot glue reinforcements before it comes off on its own.
