Default Removal of engine cover

A question for the technical "nerds":

Is it harmful to remove the engine cover? personally I can't appreciate the looks of the cover, the engine looks much better without it.
The engine probably will suffer less from heat-build up without it.

I'd appreciate suggestions/ opinions

The mechanic at the Jag dealer that I go to told me that the GT version did not have an engine cover, plus bigger hood vents and not underneath cover... all for heat removal.

yea bigger vents on the GT to get away more heat, the engine cover is there for a reason plus it has reflective foil so heat won't damage the bonnet/hood. You could leave it off, just watch your bonnet dosn't get heat damage, myself i would leave it on, you can get the cover painted or carbon effect,,there's a thread by richzak called silver carbon fiber engine cover 4.2l xkr have a look at it.

On the inside of my XKR-cover there is no reflective foil, just some foam strips to prevent vibration against metal parts. Thanks anyway!
I saw the thread by richzak and it looks good but not as good as the engine itself.
Did anyone encounter a heat damage of the standard bonnet on an XKR after cover removal?

I took mine off months ago as its just a giant blanket. The GT does not have a cover at all.

I also took mine off. Jag tech said it is just cosmetic and for some noise reduction. I also took the one off of the Super V8 with no ill effects.

Are you talking about the plastic cover that sits on top of the charge coolers or the fabric blanket attached to the underside of the bonnet? I've often wondered if removing either or both of those would give a little more noise, particularly from the supercharger...

Who's got a pic of the current 5.0 XKR (or -S) without its cover? Always curious about this; always too lazy or too forgetful to take mine off for a look-see.

Thx,

Rich

This is from an XKR-S GT and it doesn't look as nice as the 4.2L.

You're absolutely right, it doesn't look as good as the 4.2 l.
But it does have more torque and bhp!

Interesting, no plastic engine cover and no under-bonnet fabric. Those charge coolers look very different to the 4.2 S/C ones, I'm not sure if they're the same as the 5.0 XKR/R-S ones though?
