Default Service @ 80,0000 km Advice Please 2014 XKR

My service light went on. Jaguar Dealer advised that I just require a oil change. A Jaguar oriented mechanic shop said I need the 168,000/7 year service which is far more extensive with a much longer list. I recently had the Super Charger Coupler replaced so that is squared away, as well as belt.

Do I need to change spark plugs and all else suggested for that service ? Any tips or addons Would be appreciated.

You need oil. And now is the time for a transmission fluid and filter. Also the diff fluid. Have you changed the brake fluid yet? Of course you've already had a coolant swap, right?
All those need to be done now that your car is 80k km and six years old. Brake fluid every two years or so due to moisture absorbsion.

At 80K km (50K miles) your vehicle should be serviced on a TIME basis. This means every 12 MONTHS if you want to stick to the Jaguar schedules. Consequently the vehicle would be due the the 7 YEAR schedule. Mine is due this at the next service. This is my check sheet:

You'll be asking me to call round and do the service next.

I have two MSExcel Workbooks. One for routine annual services and the second for twice yearly tyre and brake checks. If anyone really wants them, I can make blank versions available for download.

I've added this link to it in the XK/XKR - 'How To' / DIY Repair & Maintenance sticky:

9. MAINTENANCE
Maintenance - Service Summary Spreadsheet
https://www.mediafire.com/file/0t0yn...tory.xlsx/file (GGG)

It's a blank version with all my data removed.

Certainly - but the additional travelling expenses for the Citation could be a serious discouragement.

So I scheduled a dealer service visit this coming Thurs but I sent an e-mail to an independent sports car specialist for oil change and such

This is what they quoted me, are these prices reasonable ? Oil change/filter. diff fluid change

A few years ago I had my Diff fluid w/ FM additive & engine oil changed at a higher-end shop, total cost was like $255. Something like $85 for the oil/filter and $170 for the diff.

You didn't state what year your car is, 2010 plus there IS no "engine oil drain plug" which is required.

There are varying grades and qualities of the gear oil for the diff. High quality fluid could cost that. Royal Purple is what I used, it didn't.. I don't have the book in front of me. But that job is an hour at the very most, and that includes a coffee break.
I suppose you could pay that much for an oil filter. I never do. And I only use top brands (Wix and Mann).
And engine oil regularly goes on sale, but that does look like common MSRP pricing.

Gotta ask: At those rates, why not use the dealer you're going to anyways?? As opposed to wasting 2 days between 2 shops.

Have to agree with this.

Either DiY or use a Jaguar Dealer. That way you know you're getting the correct fluids.

My dealer used to do 'fixed price servicing' for little more than the cost of parts and materials so it wasn't worth the trouble to me of sourcing parts and then disposing of the waste oil. However, when they increased the cost by more than 200 UKP after Covid lockdown, I went back to DiY!
