Default Should i buy this?

I love the color but hate the brushed aluminum.

08 XKR Portfolio

I'd definitely want to change out that for either the walnut or some other wood but i don't know how much that will cost or where the best place to get it is. Any recommendations would be great.

I'm not sure about what things need to be looked for in the Carfax, which I'll see if i can look at tomorrow.

I am considering either 07-10 XKR or a 10+ either one. The price is much lower on this and i know my wife would love for me to be in this price range.

A big question, are you going to garage it?

This particular one looks like it hasn't been kept in 10/10 condition.

It isn't so much the miles, it could still look very sharp at those miles.

I notice 10 months and 10,000 miles between two sets of tire replacement.
It also keeps getting brought in every few months for "electrical system checked", with hardly any miles between.

I looked long and hard at the description/pictures when this was first listed; I haven't bought it.
It will really come down to what you're looking for. It is attractively priced. It also seems to have had a hard life.

Yeah I'm not wild about that Spun Aluminum (I think it's called) either. Looks dated, somehow. Other than that, miles are decent, price is decent. And it's been on the market for a couple of months.
Two things:
- I don't think it's too hard two swap out that trim, but get a hard $ number on price first, and factor that into the price of the car.
- Count me among those who believe in a good long test drive before falling in love with a car. And then a PPI. Looks like this car is not too far away from you, yes? Check it out!

No, I don't have a garage, though we will eventually be adding a carport. But I do plan on driving it most days. Why do you ask that? First thing I thought was to protect it from hail damage, lol.

Where do you see those things? And what could they mean? Maybe someone drove it hard for the tire wear. No idea about the electrical

I drove it and loved it a few months ago, then drove a 2010 XKR that I thought was almost too fast. I'm planning on going again today, maybe check out my possible trade-in FJ Cruiser. See how long they'll let me drive it.

I'm assuming a PPI is an inspection of some sort. Would I have to take it to a Jaguar dealer/service or my mechanic? If to my mechanic, what do I ask him to check? Any idea how much it could cost to do that and how long it takes? I definitely will get the car I buy checked, but I don't want to just get every car I may be interested in checked if it costs a lot.

I disliked the aluminium on my earlier 2007 XK 4.2 and changed it:

The cost from Jaguar can only be described as TERRIFYING. I found a set on ebay at around one tenth of the new cost.

The switch on both the 4.2 or 5.0 models is easy.

I like the aluminum trim, but also like the wood... The car looks a little beat up. Needs serious paint correction and how the swirls are not too deep. Figure at 17.5K and throw 3K into doing whatever may need to be done and that's still pretty cheap. I'd figure the suspension bushings may need some going over and the usual things that break when cars switch owners.

Portfolio's are a limited series car and you should think twice before *******izing the car with replacing trims and like.

If you go to the seller's website; they have the carfax listed.

It does indicate a combination of soft tires and hard driving; unless it hit some road hazard that took out all four.

I did not see transmission fluid change listed. Maybe it was done, I'd ask. With hard driving, the fluid gets temperature flashed and doesn't last as long.

If you buy it, let me know. I’ll gladly send you my burled walnut trim in exchange for the aluminum in this car.

I like wood trim, but I think it looks out of place on a modern car. You need to have analog gauges, metal switches and chrome to make it coherent.

Well, I passed on it. After driving a 5L R a few weeks ago and then getting into a 4.2R it just didn't have the same wowbangzap. I think I'll be searching for a 5.0R. Unless I find a 4.2R that I just can't pass up because I decide to be a little more responsible with my money.

THAT is a recurring theme. Once you drive a 5.0 /R, nothing else will do.

"PPI" is Pre Purchase Inspection.
Typically you take it to a jag dealer, they charge a couple of hundred bucks, takes an hour or two. They check everything pretty thoroughly. They should be used to it: call and tell them you're looking at a used XK and you want to schedule a PPI. The typical "gentlemans agreement" is that if you buy the car the seller helps out with some or all of the cost. When I was selling a Mercedes I told folks I'd split it (up to $125) if they ended up buying the car. Obviously if you do the inspection and decide against buying the car you're on your own for that cost.

@pk4144 is pretty spot on. Most sellers will minus the cost of the PPI should you buy the car. Make sure the Jag dealer measures the paint thickness too. PPI will enable you to look nationally. If it's not done at Jag dealer, look for a high end repair shop instead. Need not be a Jaguar specialist per say, but a solid shop can notice the same things. If repair shop does not have paint meter, bring by a body shop too. I'd be more concerned on the body and a body shop should be able to look underneath for the simple suspension parts and all that too.
