I’m in the process of ceramic coating all the exhaust minus the iron manifolds (while still on car). Beforehand I’m removing heat shields and using rattle can to spray high heat enamel. The second shield in I had to remove a “crossbar”. Seems like a fail safe if the pipe hangers were to fail. Is this structural or can I safely keep it off? I’m guessing some of you installed exhaust systems that didn’t even allow for it to go back on. Save me some work and thing is heavier than it looks. Thoughts?
You can't reinstall it later if you end up needing it if you don't at least keep it somewhere. Where would be better to keep it than where it goes?
Got bigger problems now. Daughter just ran over the heat shield. I don’t think they even make them anymore. Ceramic coating should negate most of the driveshaft but I need shielding for the coupler with the seals and bearings in it. New thread, can I leave all 3 parts off?
Assuming the part your daughter ran over is the one in the first picture: Using the Google Chrome browser, right click on the image and select "search using Google Lens". This will perform an image search and several similar looking parts will pop up, including some for the XKR.
It is also worth noting that the actual part name for that piece is "transmission tunnel brace" rather than heat shield, which will help in your search. The word "brace" also strongly suggests that the part belongs on the car rather than being left off. The stamped in "crossbar" is a method of stiffening a flat sheet of metal, also strongly suggesting that the piece is a structural component and needs to be on the car.
