Default Side-mirror not tilting in reverse

I turned on my reverse-tilt option for the side-mirrors for the first time since I turned it off when I bought the car a year ago. The driver-side does not tilt down when I shift to reverse. I can move the mirror in all directions w/the manual adjustment, and it will return to my preset memory position if I move the mirror and recall the preset. I searched but couldn't find anything.... Has anyone experienced this?

Your driver's side rear view mirror will not tilt down in reverse. Only the passenger side rear view mirror will tilt down. I know that's kind of strange, but that's the way Jaguar engineered it.

Thanks for the answer.
If I didn't agree with you that it is certainly kind of strange, I'd feel like an idiot for not knowing that about my car.

He He

I just set seat position 2 to tilt my driver mirror with no change to the seat itself. Kinda make-shift as it requires manual intervention, but it works when I really need it.

Personally i dont know why anyone needs to look at the ground when backing. Ide rather look at the back corners of the car before they hit something. I hate auto dip.

I hate auto dip, but it would be nice if I could hit a button to manually dip as needed. It is handy as it is hard to tell how close you are to a curb when parallel parking, and the beeping system is of no use for that.

yeah in texas we dont have to parallel park much. I taught my kids to parallel park for their driving test. 2 moves for me and 3 for them. They all did well. Funny thing though, saw several people fail their test right off the batt since it was the first part in front of everyone. Neither were kids but adults. Pretty comical to watch although you have to wonder, one day they will be on the roads. OH, and just reverse faster and the mirrors wont auto dip

That is really clever. I'm a fool for not figuring it out myself!

So, on right-hand-drive cars, the tilting mirror is the left side.... Jaguar makes both mirrors with tilt-capability but only puts one on the car. I don't see the logic.... why not have 'em both tilt? Many a lesser car has both mirrors tilt.

Sorry, I can't get over it.....

Any idea why the tilt function on my XKR passenger door mirror works the wrong way round. Why l engage reverse the mirror tilts upwards not downwards

Woof. A seven+ year old thread.
David, I don't think you'll get a reply from intdiamond, he hasn't posted in six years.

David, read through this thread, he managed to get his mirrors working.

You can adjust the amount of the dip. I have forgotten how, but there is an adjustment to be made. Look in the owner's handbook.

You put the car in reverse and then adjust mirror, should stay that way next time you put it in reverse.:-)

But that would only work for the driver mirror, not the passenger one, right?
Because it's be nice to be able to have both dip on demand... I've set the passenger one to dip when in R, but it doesn't seem to really come back to its normal position when shifting to D...
