Smart keys added

Make sure to get the correct key for your car. Buyer Beware if you're buying a used SmartKey - it might not be able to be reprogrammed.

When I bought my 2008 XKR it had 1 key, and the fob was beaten up pretty badly. I read on this forum using the Jaguar Landrover software to add and remove keys is possible. I was able to buy new fobs which are the right frequency off ebay for £25-30 each. These are new so never been programmed to a car as second hand ones wont work so beware of this. I then as I am a Technical Person went through the process, I put the battery on charge in the car first and then connected up the JLR diagnostic software and followed the process, you have to have al lthe keys in the car whilst doing this. The wierd out come was the 2 news keys were added and I use them to ths day but the original was removed and its now a paper weight. The risk can be high as any issue could leave you without keys programmed to the car so be warned.
I took a chance and was lucky I have read others have not been as fortunate and ended with a bricked car

I have not done it with my XK, but I did have an extra "smart" key made for my Range Rover. I used a guy in Cincinnati, OH so I know that doesn't do you any good. But if you can find someone to clone a key it will probably be less than half what the dealer would charge.
Good luck with it.

The risk of failure is too great for me… The dealer or my trusted Independent gets my business

Excellent customer service, and the guy really knows what he's doing.

I just had two fobs programmed and keys cut in Houston TX for $500. They both seem to work just fine, but they don't have the Jaguar logo on the back.
Acceptable trade-off, considering Jaguar of Clear Lake quoted me over $1500 each for a new key and fob.

Clear Lake Jag was trying to rip you off a whole lot. I got one smartkey and blade for $425 at a dealer a few years ago. Still more than the deal you DID get though.
Well you know what they say "pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered". If they had quoted more like $425, I probably would have had them done at the dealer. They could have had $1000 for a couple of minutes of work. Instead, they got $0.
Did you confirm they work via the docking station
I would have to say I did not since I don't know what a docking station is in this context. They lock and unlock the doors, and I can start the car. For those purposes, they do work.
I will have to try that docking thing. I can't imagine why the fob would fail to unlock the car but be recognized in the dock.

Programming the X150 Smartkey to work remotely and programming it to work with the dock are two different procedures. Also, the cheap Chinese clones on eBay and AliExpress are not exactly the same size as the OEM Smartkey shell (with the Leaper logo on the back) and might not fit properly in the dock. I do have one original fob, but it doesn't have a key and the latch that keeps the key in is broken. The original fob should fit and work in the dock, though.
Hmm, well I guess if what I am having done now doesn't work in the dock, I will have to make sure I have at least one with good batteries.

I suggest that you keep a spare factory sealed CR2032 battery in your glove box. Be sure to check the date to make sure it's fresh.
You can easily swap the board with the electronics from your beat up old OEM case to this new OEM case on eBay. You'll have to use your old chrome retaining rings and emergency key:

If your chrome rings are in bad shape, just by a cheap clone case and use the chrome retaining rings.

Not sure why but I keep my emergency key blade separately on my key ring. Anyone have opinions to share as I’m not sure if this is a good idea or not?
Also if the emergency key is used does it automatically set off the alarm and then you have to dock, or can you get home with the blade only?
