Default Strange noise problem resovled..

So.... After having the car at the local indi, and after he assured me numerous times that there was nothing loose under, over, in the car, my search continued.. And I have now found the reasons, or the 4 reasons...

The original wheel lock nuts must be the most stupid design I have ever seen... There is some play in the fitting around the lock mechanism, enough play for this in turn to become a slight metallic sound, metal on metal...

Anyone else have this problem, or do you guys have different lock nuts??

Stormdk:

Here in the USA you can buy a complete new set of McGard wheel lugs and locks for 4 wheels for under $96.00.

It does look like your old lug/lock was rusty. Perhaps you might want to consider replacing all lugs and locks with a new set.

I just did so myself on my 2009 XKR about 3 months ago.

Amazon.com: McGard 84538 Chrome/Black (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) Bulge Style Cone Seat Wheel Installation Kit for 5-Lug Wheels: Automotive Amazon.com: McGard 84538 Chrome/Black (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) Bulge Style Cone Seat Wheel Installation Kit for 5-Lug Wheels: Automotive

In my application, I needed to use the Spline Drive Lug/Lock set.....priced under $75.00 USD

I have the same issue except I don't have lock nuts on my wheels. All of the lug nuts on my car have caps that rattle just like that. I can only hear them when I pull over the rumble strips in the garage at work though so it doesn't really bug me that much.

Is that what that jingling sound is? I assumed it was a pebble in the exhaust!

You might want to check all the lug nuts. They have crappy sheet metal covers that deform and can cause noise but the worst part is you might get them so deformed they can't be removed with the stock lug wrench. Then you will be stranded on the road somewhere.

Many threads in the S Type section about them and I have replaced all 20 of my lug nuts with a solid design that won't deform.

I also threw away the locking lugs unless you live in a real bad area you might want to do the same?

Yeah, I've been thinking about swapping them out before I run in to an issue down the road.
