Default trouble replacing transmission connector sleeve

I have a 2007 Jaguar XKR. I am in the middle of replacing my transmission pan and connector sleeve. I lifted the car on jack stands and was able to remove the drain plug in the transmission housing and remove the transmission pan. I am at the point where I would remove and replace the connector sleeve and I am stuck. For the life of me I don't know how anybody could get their hand in that tight space. I have somewhat thin hands and have been able to remove spark plugs where others could not but I can't get my hand on the plastic coupler thing that sits on top of and holds in the connector sleeve.

There is another small connector in front of it and I was able to remove that.

Is there something I am missing? Do some other parts, like maybe transmission mounts need to be removed? Has anybody done this on an X150?

I saw a writeup by ccc on an S Type thread (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-30991/) but based on the photos he posted I don’t think they have the same space limitations in the transmission tunnel.

The forum has been really great. Any help would be seriously appreciated.

Did you check Paragraph 11 in this DIY Maintenance Sticky?

There's a plastic tab inside the transmission that has to be released first.

I remember you could get a good look at the connector and fill plug by lowering the transmission a few inches. Support the mount bracket with a jack then undo the 4 bolts. You can then slowly lower it a bit.

This thread has some pics that might help:

Removing the heat shield might help also.

Very nice. However, the engine/trans should be brought to normal operating temp prior to draining the fluid.

I am replacing a leaking sleeve this weekend. With 93,000 miles, should I also be replacing the other mechatronics seals?

I didn't end up replacing the other parts. Just the leaking sleeve and pan.

Now I see the OP's concern, that connector was on there good, and the new sleeve requires some effort to push in all the way.

Definitely recommend blasting all the crap and grime out of the area with some throttle body cleaner prior to disconnecting. Removing the trans mount and bracket, then lowering the trans worked out well. Theres also an 8mm bolt holding the CAN thingy bracket to the corner of the trans. You can remove it and set it out of the way. Heres mine after all that and cleaned up:

And the filler plug and setup, with a fill tube going through the engine compartment down to the fill hole:

Got about 5.5 L back into the system. Checked the temp at the fill hole using one of those infrared thermometers and it was right at 30deg C when I got the plug back on. After a few drops and several burns on my hand, I was able to secure the plug. Overall a very messy situation under the car but the job was done. 100% my least favorite job.
