I had the defective trunk latch mechanism on my 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible replaced today. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get the lid to latch closed, which prevented the car from being locked.

I bought a used latch mechanism on Ebay for $45 delivered and paid my indie $65 to install it. It works, and all's well that ends well.

Calipers were looking a bit tired 10 years after rolling off the assembly line...mainly some light surface rust. Painted them with Rustoleum Hammered spray paint (Silver) . I didn't want a smooth, glossy look, hence the 'hammered' paint. Grocery bags stuffed, hung and squeezed into places were the star of the show in terms of protecting paint getting anywhere other than the caliper - took the wheels off, but painted the calipers in place.

Thought about going with a more exotic color, but silver/grey suits the car. $10 for the paint and a about an hour to do them all with 2 coats and get the wheels back on.

I shifted the wheels central caps to green ground ones as the original black ones were chiped. (planning on painting the calipers green too)
i also replaced the ugly tyre caps with brand new ones (the others were mixed as they have been lost/robed in the streets)

wheels new caps

Well it wasn't actually today - I did it a couple of days ago.

I'm now enjoying iPod-ness. I bought this cable from Amazon:

Amazon Amazon

and then bought the cheapest actually functional iPod I could find on eBay, for 30-something quid. Instant joy. iPod charging, and Artists Playists and Albums selectable from the head unit. I did try out an old iPod Touch I had in a drawer. It didn't work. It seems you really do have to obey the list shown in the owner's manual.

Contrary to what the manual implies, it seems the iPod remains on charge even after shutting down the car. So, uplugging seems best to save yet another drain on the car's battery.

I'll say this: the much vaunted Bowers & Wilkins hi-fi doesn't sound any better to me than the basic Alpine unit in my old XJ did. I work in the recording business so perhaps I'm too picky. And perhaps an XKR convertible isn't the ideal place to listen to music anyway. I found the top end a little shrill and the bass a little boxy and light weight.

And then what I actually did today was replace the original Jaguar 2009 satnav disc with this, which cost just 22 quid:

It took about 60 seconds to install and come back to life. A new housing estate near me appeared where it hadn't before, so I know it worked...

Excuse me, what steps were necessary to install the CD? I bought a similar new CD (for northern parts of Europe including Germany) but without instructions - and I could not bring it to life after I put it in the slot. The new CD is not accepted.

Thx in advance!

the instructions I followed were: 1 start the car, 2 remove old dvd, 3 insert new dvd, 4 wait for nav screen to reappear.

The nav display showed “dvd check in progress” for about a minute before going back to normal view.

When I ordered, I made sure I told them the specific details of the car and they confirmed this was the right disc. I had been worried because the disc was so cheap but they seem to know their stuff.

I suspect what you are seeing is the car staying in Convenience Mode when you turn the ignition off. The power to the iPod lead should switch off immediately when you lock the car or once the car drops out of Convenience Mode.

Thanks for pointing that out. I assumed that, while the car went into convenience mode when unlocked/entered (signified by the touchscreen coming to life) it went to 'full off' when you shut it down (signified by the touchscreen blanking), not convenience mode.

Having cleaned the wheels I decided to make them dirty again by driving down to Hove to look at the sea. Cruising down the A23 at 80 with the top down; up over Devil's Dyke; burbling down to the seafront with Pat Metheny on the stereo, quick walk along the beach and back home again. "There may be trouble ahead" for my car as the song says, but I was thinking as I drove back that I will never ever regret buying it. I think I love it more than I loved my XJS Convertible, which is saying a lot...

Today I repaired the glove box which was falling on the knees with the sweetness of a nutcracker.
It's now falling like a luxury car thing again.
Glad I managed to repair it.( and it costs nothing)

Had a full set of Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate all-season tires put on today.

Was originally considering the Continental DWS06, but I tried a couple of tire shops near me and they were all waiting stock, and my back tires were scandalously low on tread, so didn't want to wait. Didn't feel I needed to pay the extra for Michelin PS all season 4s. The Goodyear's have come out on top or 2nd in a couple of tests I looked into compared to those 2 tires (and Bridgestone Potenzas among others). As always, WILDLY differing experiences posted online about treadwear 'mine lasted 5,000 miles, boo!!!', 'mine still going at 45,000' etc. I'm usually pretty easy on tires, so what the hell. I can report back on how they've been for me in future should anyone be interested.

Glad you updated,I thought about doing it too but the most recent i find is 2021 and 300euros...
Glad I realised I'll change the full head unit instead...
It's changing almost every month in Paris with those crazy anticar socialists extremist from the city hall, last day even Google Maps didn't know about it and i found myself blocked on a one way street...A nightmare... So, Imagine if I followed the satellite navigation...
I'd suggest you never rely upon this if you ever visit Paris ;-)

Today I installed an "R" badge on the front grill.
I glued it with polymer glue+ original rods. If anyone wants a tuto I got pics.
Next I'll care about the front logo to switch it with a red updated one but that'll have to be done through a mechanic as I don't want to take the bumper off and don't have a lift to take the underplate off.

Glad I did.Love the look.

Why spend beaucoup euros when you can DIY in less than 5 minutes with a little red model enamel paint, a small artist's paintbrush, and a steady hand? That's what I did on my XJ.

I also did this, but Tiepolo doesn't have the Relief Growler. He has the smooth one with just the image.

For sure I would have appreciate a true DIY but... my growler is flat and very classic...That's why I'll have to install a modern one..

Today I replaced the trunk logo.
The original one had the color peeling off... I was shocked when I saw they used chromed plastic and color stickers for the R logo...on what would be a 162.000$ of today car!
The new one is chromed metal and enamel... Much better.
