Why do some XKs have the horizontal stripe across the front grill?
I can’t seem to find any rhyme or reason to this. Some just have the mesh grill with the growler logo and other include the Ford Taurus style stripe. Any ideas?

Only the 2007 (or 2006 across the pond) XK has it. Most seem to hate it, but I like it, as it adds some hint of the XKE to our X150.
I think if they didn’t try to go ‘modern’, it may have looked better. As for copying some other marque’s approach I’m afraid I can’t agree. That leads to my chief complaint of most modern cars…. they all look the same. They all sound the same. Its boring.
The horizontal splitter is a design cue carried over directly from the previous X100 model and had also appeared on earlier two door Jaguar models.
Many owners change front grilles to their personal preference but mine all remained original. Here's my 2001 XK8 on the right and 2005 XK8 on the left:
My 2005 X100 again on the right with my 2007 X150 on the left:
My 2014 X150 has the plain mesh grille:
A lot of miles and great trips in these four over the years.
Differences occur between markets. In the North American market, the first X150 model year was 2007 and the XK came from the factory with the horizontal grille bar. I'm pretty sure that the 2007 XKR didn't have that horizontal bar. It's possible that European models continued that horizontal bar after the introductory model year.
I believe that Jaguar dropped that horizontal bar because too many people rightfully said it looked too much like a 2000 Ford Taurus.
