Default Window Tint peeling

Driving along and noticed the passenger window tint is starting to come off on my 2010 XKR. Passenger side is even used less, which makes it strange.

Anyone else have this problem? I have never seen this with manufacturer window tint. Figures, I have a warranty for everything EXCEPT the damn windows and tint. pfft.

Odds are that a previous owner had aftermarket window tint film applied to the glass. If so, that's not the manufacturer's fault.

Factory tinted glass contains pigments and dyes that are added to the glass during the manufacturing process. These dyes darken the color of the glass and reduce the amount of visible light that passes through the car’s window. It does not peel off.

They are the original Windows, according to the stamping on the glass. Did they sell XKR's with non-tinted windows in 2010? The glass under the peeling tint is not tinted.

As stated, original tinted glass is not coated, so if something is perling off, it is a tint film added aftermarket. This has nothing to do with Jaguar and everything to do with the film application.

I have tinted windows on my 2010. The previous Lessee evidently thought it wasn't dark enough so they got an additional aftermarket film applied also. It's kinda dark now.

Cars that were previously owned in states known for very hot summer weather, such as Florida, Texas, and, Arizona, often have aftermarket dark window tint film applied to reduce the interior temperature.

To the best of my knowledge, all OEM Jaguar X150 side window glass is clear or maybe very lightly tinted.

Yep all side glass in any new car is now lightly tinted-- but, as noted, not with an adhesive film. (TEST: find yourself a car from the sixties or before this was standard and remember what clear glass was like).
Two possibilities: either the previous owner did it or the dealer may have done it-- a friend of mine actually had to argue that a new car had additional tinting (and the deal fell apart), and the next day the dealer called saying they "located" a car in the same color that hadn't had the tint put on. (Imagine that...)
Long story short, do what that dealer did and have it removed. All around. Should cost you about $50 at a tinting place. If you like the tinted look, start over. FYI good, well installed window tint should last the life of the car.
Trust me: if it's buggin you now it'll make you nuts in a few weeks. Also, the tint guy will confirm that it's an applied film and aftermarket.

I've had plenty of cars without tint, so yes, I know what it is like. Funny enough, my 2010 Expedition...all the windows behind the front seat windows are tinted. Front windshield, front driver and passenger windows are not tinted. I don't like having non-tinted windows. I guess I will have the tint on the Jag replaced and added to my Expedition while I am at it.

Yeah I've got a very subtle tint on my side windows and something a little darker (but not gangsta) on the rear window, and I've got a convertible so it's a pretty small window.
I love the look, especially with a black car. Also spring for the ceramic tint. Well worth the extra $$, my opinion.

Laws regarding window tinting vary from state to state, both in what can or cannot be tinted, and what level of tint is legal on various windows of a vehicle. Your Explorer may have come from a state where front seat windows cannot be tinted.

Many SUVs come from the factory with rear and side windows tinted as standard equipment. Not a dark limo tint but a medium shade to reduce heat transmission in the summer.

In Utah anyway, all SUV and Crossover vehicles can have any desired tint aft of the front row windows, which must be no more than 15%.

Weirdly was looking at my ride when queueing for the supermarket with daughter at the weekend. She asked me why the rear quarterlights(?) didn't seem as dark as the rest. I think a trick of the light as they seem the same (see pic below)

Now in the UK we don't see that much sun, but when the lockdown's over I may get the sides/quarters/rear tinted to their max legal %, purely for vanity as a white car with black pack and mostly black alloys im(less than H)O needs to look a little gangsta to look stock. Thanks for the tip as will look for ceramic types.

Seriously if I were the police I'd stop me and I'm surprised that I've never been stopped before as yet driving it...give it time though!

UK law here, indicates that behind the driver you can have any form of darkness

https://www.gov.uk/tinted-vehicle-window-rules

Also a shame I can't replace the reflectors in forward of the front wheels with a black or carbon fibre reflective material, as that would be a nice contrast and set things off better

Yep I mostly like subtle tint but bringing those windows down will make that car look fierce.

use of the window doesn't delaminate aftermarket tint film, if that is what you have there. ammonia-based cleaners do it.

Dude, it is an aftermarket tint. Unless you want to strip it from all the windows to have clear glass you will need to have the single window re-done so it matches the other windows. I have had roughly 20 cars tinted over my lifetime as I won't operate without tint here in Florida.

Yes, like has been noted, many SUV's now come with rear windows darkened with pigment in the glass itself. Pigmented/dyed glass doesn't peel as it isn't a layer like aftermarket. Was very happy when I bought my Grand Cherokee that I only had to tint the passenger and drivers side door windows, would have cost a bunch more if the factory dyed glass wasn't there!
