I don't have any water in the '07 XK, I skipped the well priced one with water issues and got a black '07 instead (It matches my black XJ).

I just have a chirping noise from the blower fan that is intermittent. It's generally chilly here so the AC isn't on much at this time of year. It chirped a bit last Monday when the weather was warm and sunny, but today when it was cool and rainey, no chirp. I hope it isn't indicative of a water problem this coming spring when the weather warms up (DC/Virginia).

 

I read on another thread that one way to help keep the drainage line from clogging is to occasionally blow it out. They suggested putting the AC down to "Alaska" temperatures, close off the vents and watch to see if water drains. It got up to 46 degrees today and it was dry, so I gave it a try and found a good squirt of water under the car. I'm happy that I don't have a clogged AC drain. I feel like a proud parent of a new baby who used the toilet for the first time.

The side benefit was that after I did that, the fan chirping stopped. I could hear the fan turning, but no chirping.

 

Hi, This forum covers my personal question. My 2009 XK 42k miles convertible just drank a bunch of water. The car was running, I put on the brakes and stopped to consider the flooded intersection in front of me. The water was racing down the street though so came to me and into my engine. It stalled out. Water was about a foot high but did NOT get inside the car or floor boards. It was dead, towed to dealers. Right now it is being taken apart at the dealers and they and the insurance people are squabbling. Dealer says anyway you turn it water comes out, why waste time looking for broken, it's broken. Insurance wants to see if it is repairable or needs to be replaced at which point they do that or write me a check. I really really liked my car. What are the best scenarios? If the inside of the car did not get wet am I safe from electrical problems? If they repair or replace does it go on Carfax? I live in Florida but it was rain water coming down the road..

 

If it were my car, I think I would press the insurance company to "total" the car and get a check from them to replace it.

I would not buy a water damaged car.

 

But it's fresh water, so it must be ok!

 

Late here, but my experience: was in an accident with a 2011 XK-- right front was T-Boned. Brought it to the go-to, high end body shop in San Diego. Estimate to fix came in at $29,000 (this was a year ago). Had a long talk with the guys and they were cool-- said they'd love the job, but there was damage to one of the main wiring harnesses on the car and "on those cars, when there's an electrical issue all bets are off." Asked them what they'd do if was their car, and they answered in unison, "total it." Insurance company actually wrote me a pretty sweet check.

"So," I asked, "...what's going to happen to the car?"

"The Mideast." Huh?

Apparently, there's a big market for these cars, in any condition, in Libya, Saudi Arabia, Arab Emirates, etc. They fix 'em up there, I was told.

 

Anything V8 and they are all over it.

 

"Mideast" is Chicago. "Middle East" is Arabic countries.

 

CeeJay - get your geography straight. Chicago is the "capital" of the Midwest or if you prefer the Middle West.

Besides that, Chicago is east of the Mississippi. How can something be "midwest" if it's closer to the East than to the West? Makes no sense. Anyway...

But still, my point is still that the Middle East is where Libya, KSA, Iraq and all that are. Not the mideast.
