Default XK top won't go down or up

My top isn’t working. My mechanic says that the switches in the top harness are shot. He’s been trying to find a salvage harness for months with no luck. New it costs $3000+. Anyone have an idea where to find one? Mine is a 2007 XK. Also isn’t there any easy way to work the top manually? It’s prime convertible weather in Florida.

The procedure to lower the top manually is in the owners manual. How does your mechanic know that the switches or harness is bad. Did he read the OBDII codes for the top. Also what is the status of your battery. Is it fully charged and reading 12.6 volts. What happens when you press the top button to lower. Do you hear anything running. Do your windows go down or are there any messages in the dash about the top. When did it stop working .

Have you tried to manually reset the top? See your owner's manual.

If that does not work get another opinion from a Jaguar specialist. Your mechanic's description does not make much sense. A defective switch can be replaced individually. Why replace an entire wiring harness? It sounds like he is guessing.

More information is needed to help. List the exact conditions and indications including if the engine is running while attempting to cycle it. Complete wire harness failure is more than far fetched as a cause IMHO. Another point, what were the conditions when the top stopped opperation?

I just recently had an issue where the top wouldn't go fully up or down, and not drive-able in those positions (and I'm heading to my new home in Florida tonight!). Turns out the issue was my battery voltage was a bit too low; put it on my C-Tek overnight and the next day, bam! I'm back in business and thinking about the sunshine state :-)

sometimes if the battery is on the way out even a ctek can’t hack it. On mine the computer was shutting down systems, roof first, to keep enough juice to start the car.

New battery solved it.

My battery is at 13.4. The rear windows work but nothing else. When I press the button to move the top up or down, there is no sound save for the windows. As far as trying to work the top manually, it only goes down partially then there’s resistance and yes, I did turn the “bolt” one full rotation counterclockwise on the pump.

I think that I’m just going to give and go to my local Jag dealer to figure this out.

If you give the manual reset another try, wait 20-30 minutes after rotating the bolt on the pump to allow for the system to depressurize. The top should move freely after the wait.

Just another thought

the luggage separator is installed in the correct position?

if it isn’t the rear windows will work but nothing else.

also it’s not unknown for the magnet to fall off the separator thus stopping the roof from operating but again letting the rear windows work.
