XKR Engine Air Filters Change Issue RESOLVED
#21
IT IS your damn issue, they not only need to be the same brand. but jaguar found out that even the same matching date code!!!!. just the differance in filter media construction from one batch to another can cause air to fuel ratio imbalances and check engine lights. We used to deal with this all the time till jaguar now only supplied them in a "paired matched set" tell your parts guy this is the 21st century and no longer as simple as he wants to think. Order a set or go pick them up at the dealer, its not hogwash
I have a 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible with 14,800 miles. How often does the engine air filters need replacement? I am not sure about the mileage interval. I am not having any reported problems. I just ran across this thread, so any advice would be helpful especially from a Certifed Jaguar Tech. Thanks in advance for your time and effort to respond.

Changed the MAF Sensor Drivers Side (B)
2007 XKR. After living with the occasional amber check engine light for quite a while, I finally got the time to replace it. What a job! Trying to get everything to line up on re-assembly was the worst of it. But now that it is changed I took it out on the road and held 70 mph for 30 minutes, then did some passing to 90+ mph and back to 70 for another 30 minutes. No amber check engine light so far. Ran my first SCCA solo event in the Jag. What a rush. It has been 42 years since I went around the pylons (then in my 1959 Bug Eye Sprite). Thanks to everyone who supplied assistance and support. Next job is to change the spark plugs. Almost 100,000 miles on the odometer.

Here's why not: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...intake-213341/
You're a newbie, so welcome to the Forum. You should create a signature (see mine, as an example) that includes your location and year of your XKR and any other info you'd like to share, to make it easier for members to reply to your questions. Also, many questions have already been asked and answered, so learn to use the Advanced Search function. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. It took me less than 30 seconds to find the above link (because I remembered that I posted a reply). There are several more K&N threads, so if you're interested it's a good time to learn to use Advanced Search. Be sure to select the specific Forum (X150) to narrow the search results.

Stock setup is restrictive up to 1.5psi negative preasure at WOT so definitely room for improvement. Member Jahummer is running custom intake setup with two dual cone filters , do not believe he has any issues with Maf maybe he can correct me.

None that I can see, even if you track a standard one. Jaguar will have sized the air intake to exceed the requirements of the engine, even allowing for quite some clogging of the air filters. If it was so easy to make improvements to a high-tech product, those engineers must be rubbish and how on earth did they manage to build such a good car in the first place. Also, we might tweak one thing and mess up the balanced compromises that the people with all the info selected. I'm not keen on trial and error "engineering".

Filter U
On the XKR we have two filters, one on each side of the car and they are in front of the wheels behind the inner fender skirt. The instructions would have you remove the front bottom shield and release the front of the skirt (8-10 screws) and bend it back over the brake rotor. I found the second time that removing the bottom shield was not necessary so it saved a little time. The air boxes are held closed by two screws rather than clips. If you do not clean all of the interior of the box very well, when you put the screws back in it will strip the threads trying to overcome the dirt. The covers fit very tightly and I found spray silicon lubricant to help when trying to re-assemble. Check the gap and don't tighten the screws if there is more than a fingernails width after assembly. Worst case, small rubber hammer to get the last mm of gap closed.

Apoligies for the deviation but I did read you statement with interest, @pk4144 ... so I had to check the differences. Thats an interesting situation in the MY10. I wonder what was the motivation for that.
I see the fuel pump does incorporate a filter... can that not be changed? For example, I did replace the power steering reservoir in order to have the effect of changing the filter.
