Default XKR Lights

Hi,

I have a 2007 XKR and I like the look of the new 2012 (even the 2009) XKR lights because they are LED. Are these interchangeable? I called the dealer and they said no, but then I see people post about changing them out all the time?

Thoughts??

Shane,

I've moved this from XK8/XKR 1996-2006 section. Members here are more likely to know if this swap is feasible or if there is an alternative solution.

There is a swap, but it's not cheap. There are a couple of different people that did some harness conversions for the wiring bit. Do a search in this sub forum for it.

Johnny,

Which kit did you purchase? I see a few different kits mentioned in the thread - but not which one is best - and where to get them?

Remember there are two (2) options here. First is to replace the complete front or rear light assembly, which includes the buckets and the outside glass or plastic lens covers. I think the OP is discussing this option.

Or you can buy LED bulb conversions kits. These are available all over the web, from dozens of suppliers.

LED Bulb conversion kits? So that would mean literately opening up my current tail light and changing out the bulb for a LED light?

It's not a bulb for bulb swap. You need to replace the whole light unit (Get newer 2012 ones), there always plenty of these lights on UK Ebay, not sure in the US?

Read the tread link I posted above.

You can also try George's write up on Page 3 (PDF Form). My mechanic used his writeup and was sucessful.
