It looks like my car isn’t enabled for Aux based on the main screen below

I’ll be giving the main dealer a call later to see if they will enable it as I don’t this there are any Jaguar specialists local to me.

Is there any other way to activate it?

Thanks Stuart before reading this thread I checked and I do have the module
fitted.
Can anyone confirm if any 2009 Portfolios were sold with the Aux connections fitted but NOT enabled, or was it standard?

Trying to understand it this is something that needs to be enabled by the dealer or an issue with the module on my car.

For those that have AUX, does it show on your screen even if you don’t have anything plugged in?

Yes, AUX shows on screen at all times. Yours isn't enabled. Interesting that the link Stuart provided doesn't show the AAU. So for the sake of others, this it a pic of that AAU (iPod Connectivity Module) located in the trunk stack.

D6LC, I also have a 2009 XKR Portfolio so can maybe assist from research I’ve done. You do not have AUX enabled because "AUX" is not in the list of options on your Audio screen. I also do not have AUX enabled; however, your screen is different from mine because yours does not show the "Accessory USB unit with USB and iPod function" being enabled. Have your tried using your Accessory USB? My screen has "Portable Audio" included in the list of Audio choices as shown in this picture.
Not sure if you have a $60 Autel MaxiAP AP200 OBD2 Scanner, but it will show you if either your AUX or your Accessory USB are enabled. This next picture of the Autel diagnostic report from my car shows only the Accessory USB enabled and not the AUX.
I wish to have AUX enabled in my car so I can stream music to the infotainment center. If that is all you desire, then I believe a Mr12Volt add-on is your best choice as it does not require the AUX being enabled because it uses the USB input; however, your infotainment center MUST include a 40-pin connector as shown on Mr12Volt’s website. Unfortunately, before ordering I disassembled and discovered my infotainment only has the 30-pin connector, so I’m now back to wanting the AUX enabled. As far as I know, the only way to enable AUX is via programming with the JLR SDD software.

I have been in contact with TechRoute66 about their JLR SDD software products and was told that:
“To enable the AUX feature on your 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio, you’ll need the following:
1. SDD Software with NGI Calibration Files – Provides coverage for models from the late 90s to 2016, priced at $250.
2. CCF Editor & Seed Key Tool – Allows you to modify configuration settings, priced at $139.
3. VCX NANO for SDD Interface – Essential for connecting to your vehicle, priced at $179.”
Although this seems pricey to get the AUX enabled, you’d then be able to do other programming and diagnostics. When I saw your post, I was hoping we could collaborate to get each of ours enabled, but I see you’re in Minnesota and I’m in northeast Texas (if someone in NE TX has SDD, I’d love to hear from you…). I did look at getting nearby service centers to enable the AUX, but the Jaguar dealer in Dallas said they will not work on cars over 10 years old and the one independent Jag shop in Dallas I found having SDD said they have never before enabled AUX but could give it a try. Considering it’s a couple hundred miles roundtrip for me and without the certainty of how long it will take them to enable AUX, it might be better for me to purchase the SDD setup above.

If you want to talk in more detail about this, PM me and maybe we could talk by phone.

Kurt,
Sincere thanks for the detailed reply, sounds like we are in the same boat here to some degree, my concern on my car is that I cannot see the options so I wonder if the car has other issues. I drove by the dealer this morning (as its a barmy 47F today) and unsurprisingly I got the "well we haven't done this before, so it may take 1-2hr, with a quote of $2-400), to your point on the drive home my mind went to investigating getting the SSD myself not only for this but for general servicing and fault analysis.
I think at a minimum its worth getting the scanner you referred to and see what it shows. I also need to check if I can fit a Mr12volt, I was hoping 2009's would have the later equipment but it sounds like that's also a risk. I need to sort something our as the previous owners country music medley CD is beginning to wear on me
Again appreciate your detailed

D6LC, yes, listening to the same CDs gets old. Although having a rack of CDs in the house, I only have 3 in the changer as that is not my preferred method of listening any more. As a placeholder until I get AUX enabled and a bluetooth device installed, I decided to go with an inexpensive FM transmitter. I chose a Nulaxy bluetooth FM Transmitter as shown in the picture below.

I chose this specific transmitter because I could use the cigar-lighter port in the glovebox which is only on if the ignition is on, it had two USB ports to power my phone and a passenger’s phone, it has a cord so I can adjust things while in the driver’s seat, and I could hide it all in the glovebox. Also, I wanted to use the console cigar lighter for a radar detector because this keeps the mute button on its lighter plug easily accessible. (FYI, that console outlet shuts down about 10 minutes after the ignition is shut off). I’m including the picture below so you can see all this and what the “Portable Audio” selection on the infotainment center provides. It only plays audio files from a USB stick or iPod. The picture also shows a nifty phone mount from Ebay that keeps the phone close to my line-of-sight when using Maps. I think this is safer than being on the infotainment screen.

@D6LC OK now that I understand why you're interested in AUX and Mr. 12Volt, I can help you a bit more. Mr12Volt will add CarPlay and/or Android Auto touchscreen functionality but it will not work on 2007 - 2009 US models. Only 2010 onward.

They interface with the can bus and also use a different touch screen that has a 40 pin video connection vs 31 pin the early models have.

The distributor said the manufacturer might address the earlier years in January but as you see, we've come to end of month and no word. The distributor is a nice guy but he doesn't have a great deal of install experience on Jaguars.
To summarize for Mr12Volt on US model year 2010 onward, the car must have
AAU (USB/iPod) module installed and enabled.
40 pin Touchscreen found on 2010 onward US models. (they are not interchangeable with earlier model years without programming which, in SDD takes about 3 hours (and fails frequently)
AUX doesn't need to be enabled.

If you want to install CarPlay/ Android Auto, contact Old Jaguar (Cambo is a moderator here). His kit is slightly different. His system requires AUX to be enabled but doesn't interface with the USB/iPod module so that module isn't needed. Pricey.

If you just want to play songs stored on your iPhone, or USB stick, you need the AAU module installed and enabled. Steering wheel functions work and the song titles are displayed. You can FF and RVSE on the wheel or control panel. The iPod interface 30 pin wired connector uses a 30 pin cable with a lightning connector on the other end or connect to a Bovee BT module that does the same thing wirelessly. It only works with iPhones

However, the USB port will take a thumb drive loaded with music and works independently of Apple.

Hope this helps. Cheers.
.

Thanks Kurt, Sean for the response, honestly I just want to play podcasts and music from my phone. I have an FM transmitted from another car that I will use whilst trying to get sort the module enabling. It just galls me to pay the dealer $2-400 for what should be a 15 minute job

D6LC, yes, paying a service center $hundreds is tough to stomach. If you purchase or find someone with JLR SDD, here are the instructions on how to enable AUX (as published by JAGAUX):
I do like JAGAUX’s bluetooth adapter for XKRs because, besides its bluetooth connection, it also has a traditional AUX plug-in jack and programmable steering-wheel controls.

@D6LC DM me in the spring. I have SDD v150 and we're about an hour drive apart. I can do it for you but not until the weather is warm.

The Mr12Volt website for the Jaguar X150 4.2L models states: "If your Jaguar is 2009 or earlier, we strongly suggest to open up the screen and check the video cable, make sure it is a 40pin cable before purchasing. Some older screens are using a 30pin cable which will not fit our product."

Is it possible to determine which cable (40 pin or 30 pin) a 2009 XKR has from it's VIN?

D6LC, the report is only the second page and is found under the "Repair Reports - Detailed maintenance report" as selected from the "Home" screen.

I may have told it to create a repair report while performing the diagnostics. Of note is that when I first used the Autel MaxiAP200 app, it made me download another app called, "Diag-Europe". Not sure if you were made to do this or if this additional app is necessary to create diagnostic reports but you may want to check. Let me know if you still cannot figure it out and I'll recreate the report to provide you with instructions.

@KurtC @D6LC Excepting the VCX Nano cable, all the other information is available on this forum if you search. If you have a old laptop you both seem capable of getting SDD up & running - with 2009 models you probably don't need anything more recent than SDD v134. @D6LC if Sean visits you probably be able to get a quick tutorial. Good luck.

Kurt, worked it out and downloaded the Jaguar diagnostic. I think this is the same report you showed

So it looks like I am in the same position as you and hopefully just need it enabled, as the module is definitely there

I'm to buy a BT Ipod adapter as noted by others, plug it in and try it to see if it it visible on the screen

Can't imagine an 09 Portfolio without one. Yours is simply not enabled. If it were enabled but "non functioning", it will still show up on the screen, just grayed out.

Thanks Sean, think your right, as I downloaded a MP3 to a USB and that didn't show.
I'll take you up on the offer to enable it, I'd also be really interested to see your setup and how SSD works, great excuse for a road trip in the spring!
