I recently bought the same car with 17,500 miles on it. From a private collectors estate- gave 27k for it. Show room clean- like new with exception of delaminating dash. Just had the dash re-covered with exact matching leather and cranberry stitching total cost to pull the dash, get perfect match materials, staple, etc and reinstall was $2,500. Had to rebuild the defroster vents of course (epoxy sand then spray paint them. They look like new. Lots of threads on this and the dash re-covering).
Hi all,
Just had this 2009 XKR Portfolio delivered, looks to be in good shape other than shrinking leather on the dash.
Car is coming up to 40k miles of which only 300 was added last year and only 1,800 done in the last 3 years.
Waiting for spring here in MN so will take the opportunity to do a full service.
I have a 2014 XK convertible and have read a few accounts where a dashboard replacement may cost $4K. Check with Welsh Jaguar for items from cars that have been parted out. Other sources are out there as well.
D6LC, yes, listening to the same CDs gets old. Although having a rack of CDs in the house, I only have 3 in the changer as that is not my preferred method of listening any more. As a placeholder until I get AUX enabled and a bluetooth device installed, I decided to go with an inexpensive FM transmitter. I chose a Nulaxy bluetooth FM Transmitter as shown in the picture below.
I chose this specific transmitter because I could use the cigar-lighter port in the glovebox which is only on if the ignition is on, it had two USB ports to power my phone and a passenger’s phone, it has a cord so I can adjust things while in the driver’s seat, and I could hide it all in the glovebox. Also, I wanted to use the console cigar lighter for a radar detector because this keeps the mute button on its lighter plug easily accessible. (FYI, that console outlet shuts down about 10 minutes after the ignition is shut off). I’m including the picture below so you can see all this and what the “Portable Audio” selection on the infotainment center provides. It only plays audio files from a USB stick or iPod. The picture also shows a nifty phone mount from Ebay that keeps the phone close to my line-of-sight when using Maps. I think this is safer than being on the infotainment screen.
@KurtC
Curious if 8 months later you are still using the exact same setup.
Previous owner used a vent clip phone mount which left goop on one of the louvers I’ll have to clean off.
Saw that clamp on Amazon but was worried about it denting or damaging the leather on top or plastic underneath that spot.
Your photo doesn’t show the cord organization coming out of the glovebox. Would love to see where you chose.

@Circumnavigator , the FM Bluetooth Transmitter was a temporary solution. I have since enabled AUX using SDD and installed a JagAux Bluetooth Adapter. As I’ve told others, I chose the JagAux because it allows track pausing, track forward, and track backward from the steering-wheel controls. And it has high-end aptX codecs so the sound is spectacular.
As for the phone mount, yes, I’m still using it and it works well. In fact, I’ve purchased two more for our other two cars. I prefer having the navigation up near my line-of-sight when driving as I feel it’s much safer than looking down. The picture below shows how I routed the USB C cord for my phone from the glove-box accessory plug out the left side to the phone mount via the trim-piece gaps below the infotainment system.

It’s unfortunate you have to clean up the vent louvers, but be happy the louvers weren’t broken. Considering how fragile the well-aged plastics are in our X150s, I’d be fearful of that type of mount. The glove box is another extremely fragile item so be careful to not let it drop open - or if you remove it to access the 12v accessory socket wiring.

Thanks Kurt. All taken under advisement.
When I saw the clamp it was the first one I put in the Amazon cart.
I imagined the exact spot you picked, cluster arch right of steering wheel.
But I feared the clamp would leave marks on the hard plastic under or the leather over the arch.
Safe to say you’ve removed it and looked and no residual marks?

No residual marks. The mount has soft rubber pads where it grips. Here’s a picture I took just now to show the dash with the mount removed. It has been attached to the dash since mid-December.

I too worried about any marks left on the leather. Thanks for the pics Kurt. Something to consider.
