Default XKR Ownership Journal

Hi all,
Just had this 2009 XKR Portfolio delivered, looks to be in good shape other than shrinking leather on the dash.
Car is coming up to 40k miles of which only 300 was added last year and only 1,800 done in the last 3 years.
Waiting for spring here in MN so will take the opportunity to do a full service.

Hello D6LC,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on that beautiful XKR. Appears to be Vapour Grey, LMO.
It is one of my favorite colors.

Welcome to the Portfolio club! That looks to be a beautiful specimen.

You might want to add your car to the portfolio registry page: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...gistery-96830/
Also check out the thread about the rarity of your car: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ertible-45154/

Cheers!

All 2009 XKR Portfolio Coupes (180) and Convertibles (200) were Shadow Grey, an exterior color unique to that model.

Welcome to the Firum. Gorgeous car. Something similar was listed on BaT in November. Same year, mileage, Portfolio, dash problem. Bidding didn’t reach sellers reserve.

I debated bidding on it. Have a perfect 07 XKR. Don’t really need 2. Your 23k didn’t hit reserve. So seller negotiated directly and you guys came to a mutually agreeable number? Asking because am going to list my X100. Not w/o a reserve.

The lister was selling it on consignment for the owner, settled on $25,000 in the end which wasn't that much more than the BAT with listings fee, pricing for XKR Portfolios seem all over the place especially on BAT. I'm sure I could have got a cheaper car but I'm happy with it, seems to have been looked after pretty well. Looking forward to putting some mies on it as its hardly been driven for the last few years

So, the 2009 would be the 4.2 V8. I wonder how the 4.2s and the 5.0s will compare in the market as time goes on?

If the E-Type market is any prediction, the Series 1 early 3.8L models are more valuable than the later 4.2L and V12 models. Of course, price depends on condition.

American = grAy
English = grEy

We had this at work the other day and now it has finally stuck
But Jaguar is British, so they probably used UK English for the colour naming, so Shadow Grey is probably actually more correct in this instance

Not sure about future values. I don't think the X150 is in the same iconic league as the E-Type and unlike the E-Types, the later X150s are better built cars with the typical Jaguar continuous improvements during the cars life, adding quality and features that they couldn't afford at the start (sticky buttons, cheaper interior materials, etc). I expect that only the 5.0 XKR-S might hold its value fairly well. Modern Jaguars are just not remembered well enough. In an era of wilder supercars, the Jaguar was a bit plain. But they are still nice cars, so look after them and have fun driving them.

Service time, happy day in the garage prepping for spring, spark plugs on their way and need to pickup some brake fluid. Pretty shocking how cheap it is to service these cars

@D6LC I found that Bring A Trailer listing and it attracted a lot of interest! There were lots of good comments and advice. Congratulations on getting a good deal on a great original and unmolested and rare XKR Portfolio Convertible, and I hope that you'll enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine. Have fun working under your car, and In case you need a helper ...

Good few hours on the car, oil and filter, cabin filter, spark plugs and air filters. It’s a nice car to work and and very easy to get around, as a simple tip if you change your air filters give the sealing lip a smearing vasaline to help refit it. All my filters were in great shape,

Also flushed the brake fluid, it’s very dirty, owners and garages offer leave the fluid so not completely surprised, brake should feel
alot better!!

Gave the calipers a quick clean and removed the corrosion from the R logo

Need to replace some of the suspension boots, as expected at this age they are perished.

The ball joint itself is fine with no play, I’ll repack it with grease and replace the boot.

A little more work than expected replacing all the boots, but I have a few more months of snow to deal with.

As I suspected, your suspension bushings were just like mine. Suspension bushings

Do you have a battery maintainer? If not, I suggest that you get a good one. See: Battery Maintainer Advice

More work on the car today, as well as the upper mounts, the lower steering rod boots were split as well.

For around $8 got a bag of assorted tie boots off Amazon, cleaned re-greased and replaced. Fronts done now onto the rears

Hopefully tomorrow will be able to strip the rear suspension down and inspect the bushes as all the rear boots seem shot

Removed the rear suspension arms from the drivers side today, every rubber boot was perished

As before the bushes are in good shape it’s just the rubber boots Jaguar sourced.

Cleaned them, regreased and new boots

Glad I took them off to inspect them all as the lower rubber bushing has split, the upper was fine

New UFO bushings part # C2C3958B $49 ordered, hopefully reasonably easy to press out and replace. Ordered a pair as I presume both side are in need of replacement.

The shock lower boots were fine, clearly a different supplier to the other parts
