Is there anything recommended to help preserve the wood? It is coated with polyurethane or something like that, so nothing will soak in. Anything to keep it from cracking over time?

Thanks,

Jack

I have used Saul @ Brittish Autowood to make carbon fiber steering wheel as well as overhead console panel . I have also used Paul @ Myrtle Productions to make me carbon door panel inserts & upper door panel trims & rear console trim. Both of them are excellant.

UV light is what causes it. I polish mine with a good auto polish with UV protectant in it. So far so good.

I agree, compare the cost of new vs repair/refinish by one of the above recommended refinishers.

The other company that does wood repairs is Madera Concepts. They are who Jaguar use for all warranty repairs.

I used Madera to repair the passenger side veneer that had a very large crack in the clear coat. I was very happy with their refinish and repair. I want to say it was like $230 or somewhere in that ballpark.

Saul at British Autowood does fantastic work. He charged a friend of mine around $400 for replacement wood for his XJ-S (dash, "ski slope" and door panels) and that included some customization (gold "leapers" on door panels, etc.). If I decide to replace the wood in my XJ-S, I will use him.
