Default '02 XKR Coupe – Window Slow, Stuck, and now misaligned

Hi everyone,

My 2002 XKR Coupe’s driver-side window started slowing down over a few days, then eventually stopped about halfway up and wouldn’t close at all. I suspected lubrication or wear was the issue.

I removed the door card and speaker, sprayed both rails with silicone lubricant, and the window now moves much more freely. However, there’s still a “hump” or sticky spot midway up — it passes it but doesn’t feel smooth.

Before lubrication, I tried to pull the window up manually with no luck. When I lowered it to about a third up, I noticed it could move slightly front-to-back in the track, but wiggling didn’t help. After lubricating, it now moves up and down, but there’s a new issue — the rear vertical seal now shows about a 1 cm gap.

Over the past 12–24 months, I’d noticed that gap slowly increasing, as if the window was gradually moving forward. During recent car washes, water even sprayed in through that gap.

I’ve watched several (all) videos and read threads about XK window adjustment. I understand the inboard/outboard adjusters control how the window sits relative to the frame, and the up-stop controls the maximum height. But my problem is that the window no longer rises level — the front lifts lower than the rear, creating that visible gap at the back.

The workshop manual mentions a “regulator slave arm adjuster”, but I’m not sure if that’s relevant or how to use it. It’s possible I may have shifted the glass forward or backward in the carrier while working on it.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a way to realign the glass so it rises horizontally and seals properly at the rear?

I’m considering taking it to an auto glass shop for advice, though I suspect they mainly deal with windscreens rather than door windows.

Any insights before the rain arrives later this week would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Angus

Not found anything on this adjustment so wondering if it might be relevant - Regulator Slave Arm Adjuster

Window stuck going up - I managed to manhandle window when 1/3 up, from front to back and then pulling up it closed. But not I seem to have it badly misaligned.

Make sure that the regular mechanism isn't bent, mine was and had to be replaced.

Here is my damaged window regulator, bent at a weak point.

The second hand one I got from eBay has already got a slight bend in it.

RaceDiagnostic thank you. Tomorrow I'll try and see if I have the same issue, as per the bent arms, in your photograph and revert.

Having taken the door card off as well as the water shedder I then used a lot of silicone spray on the two vertical guides, I then added some Lithium Multi-Purpose Grease. The window at least travelled with ease now.
Of all the window adjusters the one that was key was the nut in the middle "back" of the door (The regulator slave arm adjuster). Thanks to ScotAmb who sent me details on this adjuster, and also see this post here https://www.jaguarforum.com/threads/...on-xk8.110852/ - It is amazing how a tiny adjustment of this nut makes the glass seal well and aligns with the door pillar seal (no more getting wet at the jet wash!)

Probably my main issue though was the glass had moved along in the metal carrier as seen in this marked-up picture (glass from ebay) - I heaved the glass upward so it came out of the carrier and then moved it well along close to the rear pillar and that got my window working well but not aligned.
