Default 03 XK8 Clicking noise from Fuse box area in car

I have noticed it before but it does not seem to do it much. Last night after driving the XK8 I pulled into the drive and was about to shut it down when I heard a decently loud clicking noise from the side of left dash.fuse box are inside the car. I got out and popped the hood and did not hear it out there. I stuck my head down near the area of the noise and it sounded like it was in the car on the far left side of the dash. The click was in tempo if you will but did not speed up or slow down if I hit the gas.
Any idea's?

Yeh - mine does the same thing. It's most apparent when the door is open and the sound comes through the forward sill. There's a valve in the fender well that cycles. I used to know what it was, but alas, another grey cell has bit the dust.

yea that is how mine sounds, door open it is real easy to hear, less from inside the car. Oh well, sounds like it is normal. Nothing else that needs fixed today.

Yes it's the emissions purge valve located inside the drivers side wheel well behind the liner near the door hinge. It should not always be clicking and as things go will probably die a slow death, easy to replace not too expensive.

But is normal for the valve to be occasionally clicking? I don't notice it all the time.

Lightbulb

There is a TSB that relates to this on certain VIN ranges that may be of use.

Thanks Derek.

Interesting. It seems that the functioning of the valve is not a concern, as both the TSB and the later model merely address noise attenuation. My take then is: if you don't notice or mind the ticking then everything's pretty much OK.

Yes, that was my take on it too. Can't say I've noticed it on mine, then with age all things seem to quieten down!

I heard that very same clicking for the first time on New Year's Eve. It got real cold (10 degrees f) that night before I got out of work and I heard it when I pulled in the garage - I searched for it for it for at least 15 minutes - then..... It just went away, like that. I've been wondering about that ever since. I thought it might be from the cold. Now I'll worry less if I ever hear it again. Thanks again Jag forums!

Mine is doing it a lot now that I have been listening for it. Seems when even I am stopped, ready to park the car I hear it or if I have it running and parked, specially if I have the door open. It is noted above that some have heard it more when cold which it has been been 0-25 this week. I guess it is working more in the cold???
I don't recall hearing it even in my 97 ever.

Same experience here. My first winter in my XKR 2006 and I only drive it enough to charge battery etc. (in the winter)

As it gets quite cold in Oslo I have noticed this problem in varying degrees between -15C and now today +4C. The ticking noise is noticeably worse as it gets colder. Although no noise today.

My attempts to google more info have resulted in the same conclusion as above... Purge valve in the left side wheel well seems to be the culprit. I hope others with more technical experience can shed some light and give advice on the thread.
