Default 1997 Jaguar XK8 wheels and tires upgrade

My 1997 XK8 currently has 17" wheels and needed tire replacements. Has anyone gone through a conversion to 18" wheels and tires? would you recommend it or against it? If yes, what combo would recommend going with? Thank you.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

XK8s and XKRs from later years (up to 2006) have 18" wheels and are a straightforward upgrade for yours; lots of people have done that. 18" XJR wheels from 1998-2003 also fit. Plenty of threads around here with examples of what they look like.

I went from the 17" factory Lamina rims to 18" Coventry Whitley's (non staggered) as trying to find a complete set of Jaguar Double Fives was next to impossible. Tires - you will get many differening opinions - some use Michelin Pilot Sports, while others prefer Continental's.

I'm at the point of looking into this too. I like the looks of my revolvers, especially since they were painted darker by the previous owner. However they have some chipping in the paint and I'm torn between repainting, powder coating,or just upgrading to 18s.

Default Wheel upgrade

You could go 18 19 or 20 in the 9years of owning my xk8 I have tried all three but I do prefer the 18s as personally I do find them a more comfortable ride

I'm in the process of mounting the 20" Montreal wheels to mine (I currently have 17" revolvers). Knowing what I know now, I would recommend just going up to 18 and calling it a day.

Default Depends what you’re looking for....

I have the stock 17 rims and they are perfectly comfortable so I’ve decided to keep them. I use Pirellis tyres as they have good grip and just because I had a serious incident, on a previous Porsche, with another tyre brand. if you’re changing to bigger rims ( Yes they will look cooler), the general rule is that ride comfort suffers with bigger rims, but they drive “faster.”

You’re choice really
